Model and Nollywood actor, Uti Nwachukwu, in a new interview has revealed that the acting profession does not pay that much and he’s not ready to pretend all is well.

In an interview with PUNCH, the handsome actor revealed why he hasn’t been acting.

He said;

“I haven’t been in the country, but I am back now. I took a break from acting because it doesn’t pay much and I am not ready for that kind of life. I don’t want to pretend about it; so, I am only focusing on what brings greater remuneration, which is television presenting and hosting of events.

“Acting would just be a hobby because honestly, producers can’t afford to pay what I want to earn. But I will not stay away from movies totally; I will pick only exceptional movies instead of featuring in all the ones I am invited to partake in. I don’t have so much time for little money. I am not here to pretend all is well. I am in the industry to make money; I am not in the industry to play.”

About why he’s not married yet despite the fact that his colleagues were getting married, Uti said he was not in a rush to do same.

“I will marry at the right time and marriage is not a competition. Once I find the right person, nothing will prevent me from getting married. I am an adult and my parents are educated. Therefore, they can’t force me to get married,” he added.

The two Music stars, Davido and Whizkid got recognition in the MOBO Awards. In a statement by the president’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, Buhari joined the teeming fans of the artistes in Nigeria and all over the world in celebrating the recognition, which saw WizKid winning “International Best Artiste’’ award, while Davido picked the “Best African Act’’ award.

The statement read in part, “The President affirms that both singers have showcased the rich talents in the country, and brought pride to the nation through their many songs and performances, commending their dedication, hard work and charity works. President Buhari also calls on the upwardly mobile artistes to be cautious and mindful of likely distractions to their careers, urging WizKid and Davido to serve as ambassadors of the country and role models to up and coming musicians.”

Also, earlier in the week, prominent Nigerians including former president Goodluck Jonathan, Senator Ben Bruce as well as former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, also congratulated Wizkid on his award.

The former president took to his Facebook page to express joy over Wizkid’s win. His congratulatory message read, “When Nigeria does well, I cannot help but feel well. My happiness is tied to the happiness of Nigeria and when Nigerians break records and take the name of Nigeria to greater heights, it exhilarates me. Thank you, Wizkid for raising Nigeria’s flag high for the positive, not the negative. Your emergence as the Best International Act at the #MOBOAwards is a proud moment for Nigeria. And the fact that you emerged over JAY-Z and Drake makes it even more celebratory. WELL DONE. GEJ.”

On his part, Ben Bruce took to one of his social media accounts to say, “Dear @wizkidayo, I‘ve been in the entertainment business as an investor since 1980 and one of my proudest moments for Nigerian music is the day you defeated both Jayz and @Drake, two of the biggest stars in the world, to win the Best international Act at the #MOBOAwards. Well done.”

Former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, also congratulated both stars via his official Twitter handle. He tweeted, “My young friend, Wizkid @wizkidayo beat(s) other big international artistes to win one of the world’s biggest music awards. Congratulations! I hear young David O won too. Very good day for Nigeria.”

Things didn’t go as Planned for the singer, maybe lack of promotion or Something, But Our Wizkid has been left with huge embarrassed after less than 100 persons attended his much Anticipated concert in Botswana, He even advertised it on his Twitter page. But that Doesn’t stop him from been a popstar right? Is just one of those things..

Remember just about a month ago he made history in London, What do you think could be the probs?

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has wondered why the United Nations would be pleading with the President Muhammadu Buhari administration to keep the standard he established if indeed he ran a bad government and made poor choices.

Jonathan gave his thoughts in response to a statement credited to Borno State’s Governor Kashim Shettima during a book launch by Bolaji Abdullahi, the national publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja on Thursday.

Shettima had during his speech at the book launch claimed that Jonathan’s administration was marred by poor choices and bad governance adding that the former leader ran a “parochial and jaundiced” government.

Senate President Bukola Saraki had also at the same event suggested that Jonathan was an unserious leader who never considered the scam of Nigeria losing about N1.3 trillion to subsidy as an issue.

The Senate president had also described Jonathan as one who emerged leader either by “misfortune or fortune”.
But responding in a statement released by his spokesperson, Ikechukwu Eze on Friday, the former President said that it was sad that some politicians could go to any length to make spurious statements in pursuit of sad narrative to remain politically correct.

He then wondered if it was his “bad governance and poor choices that reformed the political and electoral processes to the extent that the United Nations is now pleading with the government of the day to strive to maintain the standards established by Jonathan?”

The statement read in part, “Our attention has been drawn to the claims made by the Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima on Thursday at a book launch to the effect that former President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan wasted the goodwill he commanded because of bad governance and poor choices in office. He was also said to have accused Jonathan of believing that he was behind the kidnap of the Chibok girls.

“As a man who had never seen anything good in the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan on account of party and other differences, it has remained our considered view that in a democracy, Governor Kashim Shettima and others like him are entitled to their opinion, no matter how jaundiced.

“However, it is a sad commentary on the character of some of our politicians that they go to any length to make spurious statements, in pursuit of the sad narrative to remain politically correct. We cannot be deceived by his crocodile tears and patronizing claim that ‘Jonathan is essentially a decent man’, which is a ploy he deployed to justify his false allegation of a lost glory.

“We didn’t expect anything less from Governor Shettima, knowing the ignoble roles he played in frustrating the war waged by the past administration against Boko Haram, even in his own Borno State.

“He should be able to tell us if it was Jonathan’s poor choices that led the governor to expose students of Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok to avoidable danger, in total disregard of a Federal Government directive to the governors in the three states most affected by Boko Haram to relocate their students writing the West African School Certificate Examinations to safe zones.

“The governor is now denying that he had no hand in the kidnap of the Chibok girls even before anybody accused him of culpability. However, we share the view of those who insist that the governor had other things up his sleeve when he promised the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) that he would secure the girls, and ended up doing the very opposite, by deliberately abandoning them to their fate, without any security presence in their school.

“It is instructive that while other governors in the zone heeded the security advice, Shettima remained the only one that flagrantly flouted it. Should we also fail to point out that his decision to reward the principal of Chibok Secondary School, who was unchara

A photo that is currently trending online shows some lawmakers in Imo state greeting in a  ‘special’ way after meeting at a public event in Owerri, the state capital.

In the photo, the lawmakers were all smiles while clawing each other, a type of handshake among cultists.

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar says he is sure of defeating President Muhammadu Buhari “this time”, in reference to the 2019 presidential election.
Atiku was quoted as saying this in an interview with Dele Momodu on The Boss newspaper.
He accused the president of “wasting” a lot of goodwill since assuming office.
Atiku said many Nigerians are unhappy with the current administration, adding that he is ready to challenge the president in the next election.
“I will definitely beat him this time (2019). He has wasted a lot of his massive goodwill,” he was quoted as saying.
“A lot of people are disgruntled but keeping quiet and lying low. Our youths are suffering terribly and now they are being sold into slavery.
“Everyone knows my track record of inviting and attracting a good team and giving them the opportunity to work professionally. Nigerians are tired of leaders…
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s claims in an interview that for about 15 years President Muhammadu Buhari could not enter the United States on account of his religious considerations is “a fictive concoction”, the president has said.
The response followed Mr. Abubakar’s interview published Saturday.
In a statement Saturday by his spokesperson, Femi Adesina, Mr. Buhari said:
“This fictive concoction being passed off as truth is mind boggling, coming from a former Number Two man of Nigeria, who should know the truth.
“At no time was President Buhari, as a private person, ever forbidden from entering any country in the world.
“Rather, the rest of the world has always held Muhammadu Buhari as a man of sterling qualities, strong on integrity, transparency and accountability. The same testimony is still borne of the Nigerian President by many world leaders today.
“It is curious that former VP Abubakar had been asked why he had not visited America for over a decade, something that had been a stubborn fact dogging his footsteps.
“Instead of answering directly, he begged the question, saying Buhari also had been disallowed from entering the same country for 15 years, before becoming President.
“We hereby make it resoundingly clear that what the former Vice President said only exists in the realm of his imagination. If he has issues to settle with American authorities, he should do so, rather than clutch at a straw.”
President Muhammadu Buhari on his Meeting today with some Aso Villa cabals indicated that Atiku, will in no way near the 2019 election, because he will be in prison by then.
Meeting with the military chief of Nigeria, he ordered that all eyes should be on him “Atiku”  stating that He will not take a chance to sideline any one who will be a threat to Nigeria in the name of 2019 election

Neymar has reportedly demanded that PSG sell team-mate and forward partner Edinson Cavani.

According to Spanish publication Sport, Neymar has made his feelings abundantly clear to those in charge of the club.

He views the on-pitch relationship with the Uruguayan as ‘impossible’ following their penalty dispute and dressing-room bust-up in the aftermath of the 2-0 victory against Lyon on Sunday.

Neymar’s compatriot Dani Alves was also involved, while reports elsewhere claimed another Brazilian, captain Thiago Silva, was forced to separate the feuding pair in the dressing room after the game which saw Unai Emery’s men maintain a three-point lead at the head of Ligue 1.

Despite their success on the pitch, Catalan-based outlet Sport claims that Neymar is furious with the Uruguayan and believes he has attempted to undermine the superstar status he was guaranteed by Al-Khelaifi upon completing his world record move from Barcelona.

Sport also claims the 25-year-old has the support of the Brazilian enclave at PSG, which also includes the likes of Marquinhos and Lucas Moura, and has also garnered the backing of fellow new signing Kylian Mbappe.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday addressed world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly, UNGA.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai, on Monday evening denied that the Defence Headquarters declared the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) a terrorist organization.

Speaking during the official launch of Operation Python Dance II in Abakaliki, Buratai insisted that what the Defence Headquarters did was a pronouncement on IPOB.

The Army Chief added that the statement of the military gave room for the right steps to be taken on the matter.

According to Buratai, the action of the Federal government concerning IPOB was right and that the military did not over step its bound towards the protection of lives and properties in the country.

“You have to get it very clear. First of all, what the Defence Headquarters did was to make pronouncement. It wasn’t a declaration per se. But this has given room for the right step to be taken. I think the government is doing the right thing.

“It is not that we are overstepping our bounds. We are still within the limits. And I ensure you that what the military said was to set the ball rolling and to bring the awareness to the public that this is what this organization is all about. I’m happy that the government has done the right thing right now,” he said.

Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose has dared the All Progressives Congress (APC), to label Senate President Bukola Saraki, as a sponsor of the Indigenous People of Biafra.

On Monday, Saraki came out to condemn the categorization of IPOB as a terrorist group.

In a statement by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Fayose also claimed APC took side with Fulani herdsmen when they killed people in Oke-Ako, Ekiti State.

He said: “Now that the Senate President, Bukola Saraki has come out to openly say that categorization of IPOB as a ‘terrorist organisation’ by the military is unconstitutional, is the APC also going to accuse him of sponsoring IPOB?”

Governor Fayose added: “It is on record that on June 10, 2013, it was widely reported in the media that the current Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who was the National Publicity Secretary of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) said that the proscription of Boko Haram was against the constitution, that it stifled the press and tampered with the fundamental human rights of Nigerians.

“It is also on record that in June 2013, President Buhari told the Federal Government to stop the clampdown of Boko Haram insurgents, accusing the government of killing and destroying houses belonging to Boko Haram members while the Niger Delta militants were given special treatment.

“Should we now say that Lai Mohammed and President Buhari sponsored Boko Haram because they spoke against the federal government’s clampdown on the insurgents then?”

He added: “Herdsmen have sacked a whole community in this country, they killed over 1,000 Agatus in Benue State and have destroyed people’s farmlands across the country, has any of the herdsmen been arrested? Has any conceited effort been made by the federal government to curb the menace of the Fulani herdsmen?

“If because I spoke against the wanton killings carried out by the military in the Southeast, the APC is saying that I’m funding IPOB, was I the one funding the people of Southern Kaduna when I condemned the killings there?

“Was I funding the Agatus in Benue State when I condemned their killings by Fulani herdsmen? Was I funding the Shiite Muslims when I condemned the killings of El-Zakzaky followers in Zaria and his continued detention?

“Mine is a mission for a Nigeria where no one will be treated like a second class citizen and we can only achieve that if we have leaders that will not be a champion of nepotism like President Buhari.”

Biafra agitator and leader of the Independent People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has said ‘I pity the APC Party and Nigerian Government led by Major General Muhammadu Buhari for choosing the uncivilized path of brute force and intimidation as opposed to referendum.” In a statement released by IPOB spokesman, Emma Powerful, the group continues to…

The Chief Whip, House of Representatives, Alhassan Ado-Doguwa, has condemned Senate President Bukola Saraki over his statement on IPOB's activities.
Ado-Doguwa said Saraki’s declaration over the Army's pronouncement of the IPOB as a terrorist group, was “a mere political statement” that portrayed the nation’s Number Three citizen as “a controversial leader.”

The lawmaker further said the Senate President obviously expressed his personal opinion, which sees him crying more than the bereaved.

“I am sure the Senate President was only expressing his personal opinion, which I further believe was not a good one in the given circumstances.  The Nigerian Armed forces in my opinion are doing their best professionally and in the best interest of a united Nigeria. Even the south-eastern state governors have declared the activities of Kanu’s IPOB as illegal and therefore proscribed. He (Senate President) can’t cry more than the bereaved.

“For me, the recent comment made by the Senate President on this matter was a mere political statement that would only portray him as a controversial leader. Considering the attacks meted out to innocent Nigerians by the IPOB group in the South-East and indeed the nationalistic conduct of the northern governors and the prompt action they took to stop possible reprisals in the North, the Senate President’s statement was to say the least unnecessary,” he said.

On Monday, September 18, 2017, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has said the pronouncement by the Nigerian military that the Indigenous People of Biafra is a terrorist organisation is unconstitutional.

He also said the ban placed on the group’s activities by the South-East governors did not follow due process.

Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has declared that he will not embark on an exile following threats of his rearrest by the federal government. Kanu also said that the IPOB is the most vibrant and intelligent mass movement in the world today.
He said the IPOB or himself cannot be intimidated into hiding by the federal government. In a statement released by the media and publicity secretary Emma Powerful, the IPOB said:
“Our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has made it abundantly clear to all and sundry that he is NOT going on exile as a result of these childish threats from Hausa Fulani dominated Nigeria Government.”
“IPOB family members worldwide under the command and leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu remain nonviolent, irrespective of the well documented brutal killings of unarmed peaceful demonstrators, abductions, torture, illegal detentions and summary executions of detainees by the Hausa Fulani Islamic run Nigeria Police and Army.”
”IPOB remains impregnable and no man born of a woman can stop the agitation for Biafra restoration. Until the Hausa Fulani Islamic Nigeria Government fix a date for referendum to settle the issue of Biafra in a civilized and democratic manner, this raging agitation led by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu will continue.
”With the situation on ground today concerning Biafra freedom, we pity the APC Party and Nigerian Government led by Major General Muhammadu Buhari for choosing the uncivilized path of brute force and intimidation as opposed to referendum.
”We urge every Biafran, no matter where you are, to remain resolute and strong because Biafra is tantalizingly closer than we expect. It is crystal clear that IPOB led by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is ordained by (Chukwu Okike Abiama) God Almighty which no man can stop. We are winning this battle,” Powerful added.
He further added that contrary to claims that Kanu has gone into hiding for fear of being rearrested, Kanu fears no human on earth and await the federal government to carry out its plan.
“Major General Muhammadu Buhari and his APC band of thugs should be the ones hiding from IPOB not us from them. It is unfortunate that some people in Arewa North do not know who Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is hence they keep coming up with laughable fabrications designed to demystify our leader, to no avail.
”Mazi Nnamdi Kanu they privately acknowledge, knows no fear and is undeterred by side rantings of the vocal parasitic few, who cannot imagine their existence without crude oil money coming from Biafraland.
”This wicked lie and malicious fabrication is the work of the enemies of Biafra, who enjoy their perfect slave status and will remain servants to Arewa North all their lives,” Powerful said.

Ex-Minister for Education and Youth Development, Prof. Ben Nwabueze, has said that IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu showed a disposition for amicable resolution before the Army attack on him.
In a statement by the elder statesman on Monday, September 18, 2017, Kanu showed readiness for amicable resolution of issues concerning the Indigenous People of Biafra's agitation for Biafra during his meeting with South-East governors in Enugu on August 30, 2017.

Nwabueze said, “On 30th August, 2017, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, Evangelist Elliot Ugochukwu-Uko and I met with the South-East Governors Forum.

“The meeting was chaired by the current Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, who, in his conduct of the meeting, exhibited his characteristic sagacity, candour and forthrightness, tempered with friendliness.

“Perhaps charmed by the things said by the chairman and the way he conducted the meeting, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, on his part, showed an accommodating disposition for an amicable resolution of the crisis and more specifically a disposition to reconsider the threat to stop or disrupt the 2019 elections and the Anambra State governorship election on November 18, 2017, but emphasized that the decision did not lie with him alone and that the leadership of the Indigenous People of Biafra  must be carried along.

“Accordingly, it agreed to meet with the leadership of IPOB in order to try to secure their agreement and support. Regrettably, while the follow-up meeting was being arranged, the attack on Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s home in Umuahia by soldiers of the Nigerian Army on September 10, 2017, occurred as reported in the news media, which, expectedly, triggered clashes between the IPOB supporters and the Army in Aba, Umuahia and other places, resulting in the death of, or injury to, several people.”

Reacting to this sad development, the IPOB leadership indicated its intention not to attend the planned meeting.

“Despite all this, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu made it known that, in the spirit of a search for amicable resolution of the crisis, he would still attend the planned meeting, now fixed for Friday, September 15, 2017.

“However, a day or so before that date, another attack on his Umuahia residence by soldiers, armed with guns and armoured vehicles, was reported in the media, which caused Nnamdi Kanu to renounce his intention to attend the planned meeting.

“It seems unreasonable and unfeeling to expect him to attend the meeting when the casualties included two of his cousins.”

Speaking further, Nwabueze said he boycotted the meeting with the governors on Thursday, September 15, 2017 because the IPOB leadership expected for the meeting were absent, especially Nnamdi Kanu.

Nwabueze urged the governors to reconvene the meeting with Kanu at a future date when the tension caused by these developments had quietened down.

The Nigerian Army has confirmed that it plans to conduct more exercises to tackle emerging security challenges in the country.
The Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, made the confirmation on Monday at the commencement of the second and third Quarter Chief of Army Staff Conference in Abuja.
PREMIUM TIMES had on Monday reported that the army plans to launch operation “Crocodile Smile 2” in the South-south and South-west regions of the country.
The report was against the backdrop of a controversy over an exercise by the army in the South-east that raised tension across the region and ignited clashes between separatist agitators and soldiers.
But the Army Chief, a lieutenant-general, said on Monday that the army will carry out exercises only to sharpen personnel skills and prepare them to tackle security challenges.
Mr. Buratai explained that exercises were aimed at focusing personnel in real time operational scenarios as against simulated training situations.
Currently, exercise “Egwu Eke” – Python Dance II is underway in the five South East states – Enugu, Imo, Anambra, Abia, Ebonyi, and Cross River in the South South.
Mr. Buratai said: “I have given the necessary directives for officers to embark on mission specific training at home and overseas.
“This is in addition to effort in strengthening and exploring own local institutions.
“Commanders at all levels are to ensure that orientation cadres are conducted for young officers and soldiers posted to units in order to enshrine aspects of unit regimentation early in them.”
He charged formation commanders in theatre of operations to imbibe the spirit of in-theatre training, based on terrain and the changing “tactics of adversary.”
Mr. Buratai said that evolutionary and global security threats were being influenced by political, economic, social and technological factors.
“Therefore, the need for regular improvement on the existing capacity of the Nigerian Army to be able to deal with present and future security threats is imperative.
“To achieve this, it is paramount to carry out accurate threats assessment in the formulation of the nation’s security policies which would enhance the ability of the Nigerian Army to deal with these emerging internal security threats,” he said.
In an interview with journalist later, the army chief said exercises and training in the army were going on continuously, but only gets to public knowledge when carried out on large scale.
“Since 2015, we have been holding series of exercises,” he said, adding that the exercises were to reassure Nigerians that the army and other security agencies were concerned about their safety and security.

The
Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities, ASUU, has officially suspended its one month, six days strike.
ASUU said it was suspending the strike till end of October for government to fulfill its pledges.
The union directed university lecturers to resume duty from tomorrow, Tuesday.
The suspension of the strike was announced on Monday evening after a meeting with the government delegation.
At the meeting, a memorandum of understanding was signed with the federal government delegation led by the Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige.
Mr. Ngige had earlier said both parties produced “collective agreement of action” after the meeting.
ASUU embarked on an indefinite strike on August 13, following government’s failure to implement the agreement reached with the union in November 2016.

Suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, have set a mosque ablaze in Enugu State.

DAILY POST reports that the incident, which occurred at Ogrute, the capital of Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State, has thrown the residents into panic.

One of the Muslim faithful, who contacted our correspondent from the area said the attack was carried out early Saturday morning.

“I was sleeping in my house when I started hearing some explosive sounds. I reside very close to the mosque.

“As I rushed out, I saw thick smoke billowing from the mosque. The fire was too much; it was burning from every corner of the mosque,” he said.

Asked whether the inferno could have been from power surge, he retorted: “nothing like power surge in this matter. The entire local government has no light for several months now.

“There has been a problem between the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC and Ikem community in Isi-Uzo, and this has disrupted power supply for several months. Prior to that, we don’t even light here; we were cut off as we couldn’t pay high electricity bill.

“We have the belief that it was carried out by IPOB supporters because they have done similar thing in other parts of the South-East since their confrontation with the Nigerian Military began last Monday.”

Meanwhile, the Chief Imam of the Mosque, who confirmed the incident to DAILY POST, lamented that, “we lost all our items to this unprovoked attack.

“From our observation, they brought everything together, including our garments, Holy book, generators, and made sure they all burnt to ashes together with the mosque.

“This is so strange and provocative as we were not having problem with anybody prior to this incident. I’m from this community, just like so many of my members.

“We have been living together with our people peacefully. So, this attack is something we cannot explain.”

While lamenting that their lives were now at stake, they called on the Enugu State Government and the security agencies to intervene.

Also confirming the incident, the Police Police Relations Officer of the Enugu State Police Command, SP Ebere Amaraizu told DAILY POST that “it is true that there was an incident. It occurred around 2am.

“But for now, we are working to reveal identities of those behind the attack. We cannot categorically say that it’s Mr A or B.

“We are one, regardless of religious background and people must stop taking laws into their hands.

“The situation is under control, our men are on ground to maintain law and order.”

DAILY POST equally learnt that Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has visited the area.

Ugwuanyi donated the sum of N1million for rebuilding of the mosque.

All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State has endorsed the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Nasir El-Rufai in 2019.

The chapter made the announcement at a stakeholders’ meeting with party leaders from the 255 electoral wards of the state.

In attendance were El-Rufai, two senators from the state, members of the House of Representatives, State House of Assembly, and political appointees at both federal and state levels.

Senator Shehu Sani, a vocal critic of El-Rufai, was absent.

Acting state chairman, Shuaibu Idris, said party supremacy is a non-negotiable principle for members.

Idris warned that the party would sanction “members working against our progress and unity”.

He said the leadership of the party would continue to embrace members who accept its discipline and uphold the APC manifesto.

In his remark, El-Rufai thanked party leaders and members for the endorsement.

He assured them that his administration remains committed to improving lives of the people.

Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi charged members to work hard for unity of the party.

The Presidency has reacted to comment by former President Olusegun Obasanjo on the agitation by leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu.

Obasanjo recently urged Buhari to meet and negotiate with the IPOB leader over his struggle for secession.

Reacting, Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina described Obasanjo’s remark as a personal opinion.

Speaking on Saturday with newsmen, Adesina maintained that Obasanjo’s comment was not a law or a rule.

“It is an opinion that he has proffered and when you proffer an opinion, it is not a law or a rule”, he said.

“It is now left for the person who was given the advice to consider it.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday afternoon left Abuja on his way to New York City for the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The president left the country after a meeting with governors of Kano, Borno and Sokoto states, at the State House, Abuja.

Buhari, according to his Special Adviser on media and publicity, Mr Femi Adesina will make a stop by in London on his way from the UN event.

It was not clear however why the president is transiting through London on his way back to Nigeria, as Mr Adesina offered no explanations.

Recall however that President Buhari had on two previous occasions went to London for medical treatments.

On the first trip, he stayed for about 49 days, and spent 103 days on the second trip, which generated a lot of controversies, leading to protests in Nigeria and London with some Nigerians asking for his resignation.

The president’s media aide in announcing his departure made no mention of when Buhari is expected back in the country.

A professor with the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, UITH, Adegboyega Fawole, has warned couples against engaging in oral sex.

Fawole warned that Human Papiloma Virus, HPV, was discovered in the throat of people engaging in the act.

Addressing journalists in Ilorin, on Tuesday, Fawole, who is of the Department of Gynecology, explained that HPV was mostly transmitted sexually.

Fawole disclosed that the virus was responsible for most cases of cervical cancer and could cause genital warts and anal cancer.

He warned that those engaging in oral sex stand the chance of contacting oral HPV infection than those who do not engage in the act.

He said, “Oral sex has been linked with an increased risk of acquiring HPV infection in the mouth and with an increased risk of developing oral cancers that are caused by HPV.

“However, sex in general has also been linked with these risks.”

Police in Jigawa have intercepted a vehicle fully loaded with 10 cartons containing 5,000 packets of tramadol capsules, along the Maigatari border town of Niger republic.

The drug, which is listed among the prohibited substances, was confiscated when the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) allegedly alerted the police that a Toyota Corolla car with registration number NSR 133 FL on top speed refused to stop and be checked at the border check point.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abdu Jinjiri, told newsmen that the driver, who was the only occupant, abandoned the vehicle and fled but was given a hot chase by the police, who eventually nabbed him.

He said the substance, which is estimated at over N3 million, has been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Dutse alongside the alleged culprit for prosecution.

University lecturers are close to calling off their one month old strike after reaching a fresh agreement with the Federal Government on their demands.

Top of the agreement  reached at a 15-hour meeting that ended early yesterday in Abuja,is the immediate release,by government, of N220 billion to the universities to fund the revitalization of federal universities in the country.

The sum is expected to be paid not later than next month.

The money is to enable the institutions buy working tools needed for effective discharge of their responsibilities.

Representatives of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU)  are scheduled to present details of the agreement to the National Executive Council of the union within the next one week for ratification, and possible calling off of the strike.

Besides, government at the   conciliatory meeting, coordinated by Labour and Employment Minister,Chris Ngige, agreed to commence the immediate payment of the salary shortfall to the lecturers.

Ngige told reporters at the end of the meeting that government had also commenced the payment of the earned allowances of members of the union.

He said the meeting also discussed how to set up the National Universities Pension Management Company as well as the issue of university staff schools and the Treasury Single Account.

His words: “We also discussed the issue of university staff schools and treasury single account with a view to finding how the system could accommodate funds for research grants that need to be independent from the government. We also discussed the issue of how the Federal Government could be involved in the running of state universities.”

He said the meeting agreed to set up a seven-man committee on the  implementation of the proposals.

The union and the federal ministry of education will each be represented  by three persons on the committee, while government will be represented by one person who will serve as chairman .

Continuing, Ngige said:  ”There’s the  fund for revitalization of public universities and the issue of Earned Academic Allowances; the issue of University Staff Schools on which there is a court judgment; the issue of National Universities Pension Management Company; and the issue of salary shortfalls for lecturers and staff of universities. There is the issue of TSA exemption and the problems in the state universities. All are the issues that ASUU felt that government should address.

“Most of these issues stemmed from the 2009 agreement that government had with ASUU and also from the 2013 Memorandum of Understanding that the government had with ASUU. Government is a continuum. Most of those issues were not issues that cropped up from the Buhari administration, we inherited them.

“But be that as it may, we are to ready to address those issues.

“But ASUU has to take back this our proposal to their organs, so we decided that there’s an agreement for government to make some funds available in September and October to show that they are not repudiating their agreement and to also show sign of good faith.

“On the issue of Earned Academic Allowances, we have listened and payment has started in that direction and the same with staff schools. Government is though not appealing, we have agreed that the decision should be conveyed to the various universities.

“The Issue of NUPENCO was addressed and ways have been fashioned out for the registration of that company. Salary shortfalls for lecturers and university staff were also addressed and government has shown their commitment and evidence that payments have started in order to liquidate the outstanding allowances.

“The issue of TSA exemption was also discussed and an agreement or proposal was muted by which the Central Bank would open a special account.

”State universities which have been the concern for ASUU and everybody who has been looking for quality education in the country was also discussed and the Minister of Education was mandated to

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called for the immediate resignation of the Minister of Women Affairs, Aisha Jumai Alhassan over what it tagged her ‎‘derogatory remarks’ against President Muhammadu Buhari.

Alhassan, famously known as Mama Taraba, has been under fire following her recent comment that she would support former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar even if President Buhari opted to contest in 2019.

She had said, “And again, Baba Buhari did not tell us that he is going to run in 2019.

“Let me tell you today that if Baba said he is going to contest in 2019, I swear to Allah, I will go before him and kneel and tell him that ‘Baba I am grateful for the opportunity you gave me to serve your government as a minister but Baba just like you know I will support only Atiku because he is my godfather. If Atiku said he is going to contest.”

Reacting to her assertion, while fielding questions from newsmen at the APC national secretariat Abuja on Friday, a member of the National Working Committee (NWC) and National Vice Chairman, Northwest zone, Inuwa Abdukadir, said Alhassan’s comment was crude.

“She must resign over her derogatory comment against the person and office of President Buhari. It is very obvious that she is beginning to bite the finger that is feeding her,” he said.

Reacting to Atiku’s claim that he was abandoned after he brought the APC to power, Abdukadir described the former vice president as a liar and blackmailer, labeling his attack on President Muhammadu Buhari and the party as ‘misleading.’

Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday disclosed that his then administration built 165 model schools in the North despite getting the least vote from the region.

Jonathan made the disclosure while addressing an audience at the Peace Summit organized by the Junior Chamber International, JCI, in Malaysia.

According to Jonathan, he was inspired to construct the model schools in other to tackle the high rate of illiteracy in the region.

He said, “In Nigeria, there were 10.5 million (about 15% of the population) out of school children who were of school age, going by UNICEF figures, as at the time I became president.

“Over 80% of these children for which majority are known as Almajiri came from the northern part of Nigeria, where I recorded the least votes in the elections I contested.

“Knowing the value of education, I could see that the ugly situation was limiting the opportunities of these children and negatively affecting the development of my country.

“That was why my administration decided to build 165 Almajiri Integrated Model Schools which combined both western and Islamic education in its curricula.”

Jonathan had earlier revealed what influenced his decision to concede the 2015 Presidential election to his successor, President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Nigerian government has accused Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development for Minister, Aisha Alhassan (Mama Taraba) of spending N12m on ‘familiarisation visits’ to unnamed skill acquisition centres in 2015.

This is contained in a report from the Auditor-General’s office.

The report came days after Mama Taraba declared support for the presidential ambition of former vice president Atiku Abubakar.

According to Premium Times, part of the funds was spent on November 11, 2015, the day the minister was officially sworn-in.

The report which contains observations made on the underlying accounting records of ministries, departments and other agencies of government, is the latest from the Auditor-General’s office.

It said, “an audit investigation established that the purported acclaimed appraisal visits to skill acquisition centres were never undertaken.”

The audit committee observed that: ‘‘all the attached receipts for fuelling did not indicate quantity in litres, the rate per litre, dates of purchase and vehicle number of the fuelled vehicles.

“The International hotel receipt of 23/11/15 which was issued for the hiring of a mini-bus from a hotel to unnamed project sites rendered the receipts doubtful.

”Hiring of cars to Project Sites at ridiculous rates of between N75,000.00 and N77,000.00 for two days as appeared on receipts numbers 910 of 22/11/15, 107 of 24/11/15, 0416 of 27/11/15, 531 of 25/11/15, is contrary to exercise of the due economy in line with the provision of Financial Regulation 415.”

Reports of the investigation by the audit committee revealed that part of the expenses for the verification visits was made on the day Mrs. Alhassan was sworn in.

”Receipt number 5206 of 11/11/2015, the date the Minister was sworn in by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and receipt number 11622 of 8th of November, 2015 with amount N100,000.00 respectively are not clear. The two receipts were for servicing of a vehicle two times within 3 days,’’ the report noted.

Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has said that as a member of the ‘Buharist group’, he has no ambition to contest for the presidency in 2019.

El-Rufai stated this while speaking with State House reporters, after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Friday.

He also revealed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governors and Ministers have decided to back Buhari to re-contest.

“My name has continuously been mentioned as a Presidential aspirant s‎ince 2007 after my years in the FCT, there is nothing new about that.

“What I want to say here very, very clearly is that I have never been a Presidential aspirant, I have never even been a gubernatorial aspirant.

“I am governor today by the grace of God because President Buhari called me and said go and run for Governor of Kaduna state.

“As far as 2019 is concerned, my position is the President (Muhammadu Buhari) is looking very well, he is recuperating very fast. My hope and prayer is he will contest in 2019,” he said.

Gov. Nasiru El-Rufa’i of Kaduna state has said that governors and ministers under the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) have resolved to call on President Muhammadu Buhari to contest the 2019 presidential election.

El-Rufa’i, who made this known to State House correspondents after a closed door meeting with President Buhari in the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Friday, said the governors and the ministers made the call as members of the “Buharist Group”.

The “Buharist Group” is an association of APC governors and ministers, whose primary aim is to promote and defend the perceived socio-political interests of President Buhari.

The governor dismissed the assertion that he was being groomed to replace President Buhari in 2019.

According to him, as a member of the “Buharist group’’ he has no presidential ambition as being speculated since he left the public service as minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in 2007.

On the recent political comments attributed to the Minister of Womem Affairs and Social Development, Aishat Alhassan, El-Rufa’i said Nigerians should not be surprised or shocked over her utterances, saying that in the APC she was never in the Buhari camp.

Aishat Alhassan had on Wednesday disclosed in a BBC Hausa Service interview that she would rather resign as minister than abandon the former vice president “if he decides to run for presidential elections in 2019’’.

However, El-Rufa’i said that Alhassan neither supported Buhari’s candidature during the APC National Convention nor voted for (Buhari) him during the party primaries.

“This has always been her position because from time she has never supported Buharism or what Buhari stands for.

“Being part of Buhari government is a different thing because government sets policies and if you are a minister you execute the policies. You can execute those policies while pursuing a different brand of politics,’’ he said.

The governor, who said he was in the Presidential Villa to wish the President “very happy Sallah’’ and also join him in performing the Juma’at prayer, said it was the President’s prerogative to either retain or remove the minister from the cabinet.

He said: “Look, you can retain a person in the cabinet even if he doesn’t support you if he adds value to the country. Because this is a government, it is not a political group fighting for some political progress.

“If Jummai Alhassan is coming as Minister of Women Affairs and adding value to the government and the people of Nigeria it is the President’s prerogative to retain her in spite of her political views.

“But if she is not adding value in spite of her political views she can be dispensed with…… people shouldn’t get worried about it. I have worked closely with the President, I know him and I know how he thinks. He doesn’t take these things personally…. What is primary to him is Nigeria’s progress… that is what matters ultimately.’’

On the ongoing debate on restructuring the country, El-Rufa’i, who is chairing the APC ‎committee on true federalism, said his committee would start public hearings on the matter from Sept, 18.

He said that the committee had started receiving a lot of comments and memoranda particularly from young people who had never been part of the restructuring conversation.

According to him, the committee will have 13

Former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, has revealed that he would only support President Muhammadu Buhari for re-election in 2019 after a review of his performance towards the end of his current four-year term.

In an interview with BBC’s Focus on Africa on Friday, Obasanjo also rated Buhari’s administration, which is now more than two years old.

He declared that he was not disappointed in Buhari’s government.

According to him, the current president has performed well in his areas of strength, which includes fighting corruption and the Boko Haram insurgency.

“President Buhari, I have said, has not disappointed me because the areas which we knew he was strong, he has performed fairly well,” Obasanjo said.

However, Obasanjo admitted that not “everyone will be satisfied” with Buhari’s anti-corruption war.
