The Enugu Chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has endorsed President Muhammadu Buhari for the second time in office at the 2019 general election draws near.
News Agency of Nigeria reports that The unanimous decisions were taken during the state’s APC’s enlarged State Executive Council and stakeholders meeting held at the party’s secretariat in Enugu.
We understand that the State Chairman of APC, Dr Ben Nwoye, while addressing the stakeholders of the party stated that the party would field candidate to all elective position.“We have the power and all it takes to confront the PDP in 2019,’’ he said.
He, however, cautioned against sabotaging the plans of the party by some members.
“If there is anybody here who will support the election of a PDP candidate, this is not the place for you, you should leave us; what we want is purely candidates of APC extraction.
“We must drop our egos and focus on winning elections in the interest of the party,’’ he said.
Nwoye also used the opportunity to apologize to all the party faithfuls that he might have offended during the crisis period of the party.
The party equally passed a vote of confidence on the president and Dr Ben Nwoye, led executive committee of the party in the state.

Goods and shops in the Popular Timber market,  Kenyatta, Enugu state, estimated to worth about N1.2bn has been razed by fire.
This Day Live report that an eyewitness confirmed that the fire began to rage after the close of work on Friday night and raged into the midnight, with the effort of the men of the state fire service proving abortive.
News men gathered that Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and the State Emergency Management Agency visited the market late Friday night to coordinate activities of the fire-fighters.
Shop owners and sympathisers were seen in clusters discussing the tragic development while the younger ones among them were sifting through the debris to salvage any item of value and others assisting the fire fighters.
The cause of the fire cannot be verified, however, a fireman at the incident pointed out that arson might not be the likely cause of the fire. He said that men of the fire service are on top of the situation, as they have succeed in restraining the fire in the market from spreading.
A trader at the timber shed who gave his name as Mr. Amaechi estimated the damage to be in the region of N2 billion.
The Peoples Democratic Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will fail in the July 14 governorship election, “even if it deploys N100 billion to prosecute the election.”
The party said the Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr Kayode Fayemi had allegedly earlier boasted of providing N8 billion from his own pocket and,”gave the assurance of N20 billion from the Presidency to buy one vote at N20,000″.
PDP Publicity Secretary, in a statement on Sunday, Jackson Adebayo, who was reacting to report that the APC was proposing a budget of N15 billion for the Ekiti and Osun States governorship election said it was laughable that a party controlling the federal government that did nothing for Ekiti State since it assumed power in 2015 could be raising N15 billion for election.
The PDP said; “APC is budgeting N7.5 billion, three months allocation of Ekiti State for a mere governorship election while Fayemi is boasting of having N8 billion his personal money to spend and N20 billion from the Presidency, making N35.5 billion? What special interest do they have in Ekiti that will require spending of N35.5 billion on mere governorship election?
“In one year, Ekiti State cannot get N35.5 billion as share from the federation account and the question is; of what benefit will the N35.5 billion be for the people of Ekiti? Why not spend just half of the N35.5 billion on infrastructural development of Ekiti State?
“To us in Ekiti State PDP, no amount of money will buy the conscience and integrity of Ekiti people. Ekiti people are mindful of the party that plunged the State into debt and collapsed the economy of the country.
“Talking about spending N35.5 billion on Ekiti election is an insult on the collective sensibilities of Ekiti the people. Not even when the APC federal government has not done anything for the State since it took power in 2015.
“Even Fayemi that boasted of having N8 billion to spend on the election, can the APC point to one benefit Ekiti has derived from his position as minister in charge of solid minerals? Even the solid minerals in Isan-Ekiti, his hometown, has he done anything on them?
“The reality the leadership of APC in Abuja must begin to face from now is that even if the entire treasury of the federal government is opened and deployed to Ekiti State from today till July 14, it won’t save the party from losing the governorship election.”
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday congratulated former President, Olusegun Obasanjo on his 81st birthday and for calling out the President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government.
PDP described Obasanjo was an “outstanding nationalist; a courageous and dedicated leader, who has made immeasurable sacrifices towards the development, stability and growth of the nation.”
The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan said the party remains proud of Obasanjo, who has excelled as an international figure and made outstanding contributions toward global peace and development, particularly, in the African sub-region.
The statement reads, “Indeed, the PDP intensely celebrates former President Obasanjo who stands tall as one of the best performed Nigerian Presidents chiefly because his administration founded and anchored its policies and programmes on PDP’s people-based manifesto and ideology.”
The PDP also commends the former President for his, “continued engagement on national issues, particularly his disposition against poor governance, corruption, bloodletting and confusion that now pervade the nation in our nearly three years under the incompetent and deceptive All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government.
“While we value Chief Obasanjo for his concerns for the political future of our nation, we note that our repositioned and rebranded PDP remains the only credible political platform for the much desired broad-based engagements among Nigerians and coalitions across board.
“Our party, the PDP, is more than prepared to salvage our nation in the all-important task of returning her back to the path of good governance, national unity and prosperity for all, come 2019.
“The PDP family therefore joins in celebrating Chief Obasanjo on his birthday, even as we pray God to grant him good health, wisdom and strength as he continues to be of service to our dear fatherland.”

UN Secretary-General, António Guterres has urged Nigerian government to step up efforts against Boko Haram.
He also called on the government to apprehend and prosecute those who carried out the attack on Rann town, in Borno.
Guterres, in a statement he signed at the weekend, also confirmed the evacuation of all humanitarian personnel and the temporary suspension of all humanitarian deliveries in the area.
He condemned the killing of three aid workers in Rann, following an attack by suspected Boko Haram insurgents.
The UN chief recalled that attacks targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure violated international humanitarian law.
“Those responsible for these and other atrocities in Nigeria must be apprehended and prosecuted,” the UN scribe said.
The Secretary-General called on all the parties to ensure at all times the protection of all civilians.
According to the UN, at least one other aid worker remains critically injured and another three are still missing while eight members of the Nigerian national security forces were also killed.
The UN chief said: “at the time of the attack, over 40 humanitarian workers were in Rann.
“All humanitarian personnel have been evacuated from Rann, and all humanitarian deliveries in the area have been temporarily suspended”.
The Secretary-General expressed his deepest condolences to the affected aid workers, their families and to the Government and people of Nigeria.
The UN scribe wished those injured a swift recovery.
The Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Abdullai Gana, has arrived Maiduguri in response to the directives by President Muhammadu Buhari to relocate to the North East.
The Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, had directed the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris; and the Commandant-General of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Abdullahi Muhammadu, to relocate to the North East.
The NSCDC boss was directed to relocate to the northeast to ensure deployment of personnel to all schools in liberated areas in the states.
Operatives of NSCDC are expected to liaise with the military and governments of Yobe, Borno and Adamawa to provide adequate security
The Presidency said the directive became necessary to prevent the re-occurrence of the attack and abduction of Dapchi schoolgirls by Boko Haram.
Gana was received on Saturday by the Commander of the Army’s Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Rogers Nicholas at the headquarters of Military Command and Control Centre, MaidugurI
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the murder of several persons, including international aid workers, by insurgents in Rann, Borno State on Thursday.
The party charged the United Nations (UN) and the International Community to hold the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government directly accountable for their death
.
The party also called for full-scale investigation, by independent bodies, into circumstances surrounding the alleged compromising of security in flashpoints as well as alleged release of some arrested insurgents by agents of the Federal Government, a development now generally believed to have contributed to the upscale of violent attacks in the northeast.
The PDP, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, on Saturday described as sad and disheartening the incessant killings of innocent and well-meaning individuals, including security operatives, due to the incompetence and duplicity of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-controlled Federal Government.
The party said the Federal Government must also be held responsible for issuing false security assurances, claiming it has routed out insurgents, thereby making communities and international aid workers believe a lie, whereas their lives were, in fact, on the line.
“The PDP is pained that defenceless individuals are being mowed down daily by marauders because those vested with the duty to protect them are busy telling them lies and even engaging in acts that embolden their attackers.
“We urge the international community to compel the Buhari Presidency to come out with the truth on the alleged compromising of security in flashpoints as was reported in the sudden withdrawal of troops from Dapchi, Yobe state, just before the abduction of our 110 daughters.
“The withdrawal of troops before the horrendous abduction has raised all manners of speculation and provided room for conspiracy theorists to thrive.
“Nigerians have become weary, despondent and disappointed as insurgents, murderers and marauders rove our land while the Buhari Presidency engaged in cosmetic reactions.
“We ask: what was the actual security situation in Rann and what was the information available to the community before the attack?
“What has the Federal Government to say to the allegations that it released some arrested terrorists as well as allegations that monies were even paid by government agents to terrorist groups as ransom in controversial swap deals? These developments are being alleged to have emboldened acts of terrorism in the country.
“It is depressing that since the attack in Dapchi and Rann, the Presidency has not taken any concrete steps towards apprehending the attackers and rescue the missing aid workers.
“Instead, our dear President, who has not visited Benue, Yobe, Adamawa, Taraba and other areas that have been under attack, is busy making merry in a wedding ceremony in Kano, while the world mourn the murder of international aids workers providing succor to internally displaced persons in our country.
“We stand in solidarity with the families of the deceased and urge all well-meaning Nigerians and groups, particularly international bodies, to rise up and do all within the laws to assist our nation as the APC Federal Government has completely failed,” it said.

President Muhammadu Buhari has urged Nigerians of all faiths to coexist peacefully.
Buhari stated this on Saturday in Katsina at the closing ceremony of the 32nd National Qur’anic Recitation Competition.
Represented by Minister of State for Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika, Buhari said “All the Books of Almighty Allah teaches us same thing, that is how to live in peace with one another.
“It is clear that Quran is the greatest encyclopedia which contains all aspects of human life. Quran teaches us how to be fair and just to all including the non-Muslims.
“It has also been stated that during the lifetime of the Prophet Muhammad, Peace be Upon Him, when Muslims were being persecuted, he asked them to migrate to a Christian Kingdom in Ethiopia, where they lived peacefully,” he said.
Sultan of Sokoto, urged states and local governments in the country to intensify efforts towards ensuring peace in their domains.
“It is only with adequate peace that competition like this can take place,” he said.
He also urged Nigerians to strive and register in the ongoing voter registration as the 2019 general elections approaches.
“It is only with a voter card that Nigerians can elect leaders of their choice who will protect their interests,” the monarch noted
Former Secretary to Oyo State Government, Barrister Sarafadeen Abiodun Alli, said the recent abduction of about 105 students in Dapchi, Yobe state and various attacks in the North Eastern part of the county have shown that President Muhammadu Buhari was only fighting political Boko Haram.
According to him, the presidency was only economical with truth when it claimed that the Boko Haram insurgents have been ‘technically defeated.’
Alli, a former Chairman of Odu’a Investment Company Limited and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in the state, while speaking in Ibadan, the state capital during a live radio program on Fresh FM, “Political Circuit” and monitored by DAILY POST, informed that it was certain that many people were making money in the fight against Boko Haram insurgents, the development he said had made it difficult for the President and the security agencies to defeat the insurgents totally.
He said he was convinced that many people in helms of affairs were making use of the current insecurity state in the country to make huge amount of money.
Alli said, “Buhari is fighting political Boko Haram. Some people are making money in the fight against Boko Haram insurgents. Certainly who can convince me that some people in power are not making money in the fight. We know Buhari don’t know anything about the economy.
“They said several times that they have defeated Boko Haram. They are fighting war and they withdraw soldiers. They kidnapped school girls recently. Many people are making money from this. What is good for the geese is also good for the ganders and it is also good for other geese.
Speaking further, Alli also accused the President of fighting a selective war against corruption, considering the number of accused corrupt politicians who are in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and still roaming about the country without being prosecuted.
He said he was surprised that immediately a corrupt politician joins APC, his charges will be kept under the carpet
Alli said “Anyone who is accused of corruption, immediately he joins APC, his case will be kept under the carpet. Look at Orji Uzor Kalu and others, many people are joining APC because they are afraid. Immediately you join APC, they will exonerate you. Babachir Lawal, former SFG was accused of corruption.
Speaking on his governorship ambition, the former Oyo SSG remarked that the need to have a governor who knows the problems and the needs of the state and her people and provide the best for the people, informed his decision to join the governorship race ahead of 2019 elections.
Alli said ” The kind of governor we should have in Oyo state is somebody who knows the terrain. If you ask some people who want to be governor, they don’t know where Ado Awaye lake, Ikere George Dam, I want to expand the economy base of Oyo state. If you go to Shagamu interchange, you will see a lot of industries there, we are going to do more of that in Oyo state.
“I am a democrat, I am a team player, I believe people of Oyo state deserve better than what they are getting now. And so we must resuscitate out moribund industries. We make efforts to call former Governor Adebayo Alao Akala and Senator Teslim Folarin back but because they have gone that does not mean that PDP will not win the 2019 elections.
” That is what is binding us together it is not about personal agenda. I will stay I am a party man. I am not leaving PDP, we want to send APC away in 2019. I was offered Senatorial ticket in 2011, it was giving to Senator Olufemi Lanlehin, I did not leave. I was not given governorship ticket in Labour Party in 2015, I did not leave.
“We know that people of Oyo state are waiting for us to come in 2019, we know that you are certainly waiting for us. And I want our people to go and get their PVC, prayer point cannot solve this problem. It is your own voter card that can solve it
Senator David Mark has reconciled members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ekiti State.
The reconciliation came ahead of the party’s primary election.
Former President of the Senate, Mark met the warring parties in Abuja on Friday.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Media Assistant to David Mark, in Abuja on Saturday.
The Senator David Mark led-reconciliation committee members included; Senator Enyinaya Abaribe, Ambassador Ibrahim Kazaure , Alhaji YusuF Ayitogo, Ambassador Fidelia Njeze and Dr. Eddy Olafeso (Secretary).
The aspirants who have indicated interest for the governorship position under the PDP are: the current Deputy governor, Prof. Kolapo Olusola Eleka, Senator Biodun Olujimi, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, Amb. Dare Dejide and Barr Owoseni Ajayi.
Reeling out the resolutions of the peace parley, the Secretary of the reconciliation committee, Dr. Eddy Olafeso said “the state governor Ayo Fayose and all the aspirants attended the meeting.”
He added that “all the parties agreed to a free, fair and credible primary to elect a gubernatorial candidate for the July polls.”
The statement added, “Olafeso said that governor Fayose pledged to work with any of the contestants who emerges at the primary.”
He said that “nobody was persuaded or compelled to withdraw from the race.”
Trouble started in Ekiti state ahead of the election when governor Fayose allegedly adopted his Deputy as his successor.
Senator Mark had cautioned the gladiators that only peace, justice free and fair primary would guarantee success at the Ekiti state polls.
The former Senate President appreciated the warring parties for their display of maturity and understanding towards the resolution of the dispute.
The governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has berated leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, for failing to attract tangible projects to the state since 2015.
Governor Wike said that the Rivers APC leaders, who are working with the failed APC Federal Government, should remain quiet because they could not deliver.
Wike said this on Saturday, after the flag-off of the construction of Umueze-Umuogba-Umuokpurukpu-Umueke-Umunju-Umuellechi-Eberi road in Omuma Local Government Area of the state.
He said, “The Federal Government has no tangible project in Rivers State after close to three years in government. These APC leaders from Rivers State have been unable to attract a single project.
“If you know that you cannot deliver projects to the people of Rivers State, you better keep quiet and allow us develop the state.”
According to Wike, as a Minister of State for Education, he was able to attract 22 key projects to the State and grants for Ignatius Ajuru University of Education and Ken Saro Wiwa Polytechnic.
He thanked the people of Omuma Local Government Area for their overwhelming support, while assuring them that they would enjoy key projects.
He said, “There is no way that Omuma Local Government Area will not continue to benefit from key projects. The lawmaker representing Omuma State Constituency, Rt Hon Kelechi Nwogu, has performed creditably and we can see his constituency project.
“Those, who represented Omuma Local Government Area in the past, what is their legacy. For this administration, we shall develop the area.”
The Sultan made the call during the Closing Ceremony of the 32nd National Qur’anic Recitation competition organized by Centre for Islamic Studies, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto and hosted by the Katsina State. Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar said it is only by getting their voter’s card that they can have a say in what their leaders do. The Sultan of Sokoto, urged Nigerians to ensure they register in order to participate in the voting process during the scheduled 2019 general elections. “It is only through your voter’s card that you can challenge your leaders and also have a say in what they do,” the Sultan said. In his remarks, Katsina State Governor, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari, said the prevalent Almajiranci system has no basis in Islam. “The practice of the Almajirai is far from being a reflection of Islamic ideals. “The Almajirai are erroneously linked to Islamic education. Aged between four and 15 years, the Almajirai are engaged more in seeking sustenance for themselves than in learning the Qur’an. They are exposed, exploited and abused and many of them become involved in crimes. Islam does not encourage begging,” Governor Masari said. Meanwhile, about 250 reciters participated in the competition. The event also saw Amina Aliyu Mohd from Borno state and Amiru Yunus Guru from Bauchi state emerging as the overall winners and got awards such as brand new cars, Hajj seats and other cash donations. However, hosting of the 33rd edition of the competition slated for next year has been handed to Gombe state after they were announced the winner.

The acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr. Ibrahim Magu, says he is encouraged by the Senate’s decision not to confirm him as the substantive chairman of the EFCC. Naija News learnt
Magu, who has been operating in acting capacity for over two years, said this during an interview on a programme on Channels Television titled, ‘Question Mark.’
When asked if he was not demoralised by the Senate’s refusal to confirm him, Magu said, “I don’t think so. In fact, I feel a lot of encouragement. The fact that I am not confirmed shows that I am working. In the anti-corruption environment, if they rush to confirm you, it means you are not really doing your work properly.”
When asked why he was the first person to head the commission in acting capacity for such a long time, he said, “There are many people we are investigating who are members of the National Assembly.”
Magu however rubbished reports that he was not confirmed because of the report from the Department of State Services. He also dismissed claims that he was pursuing a one-sided anti-corruption war.

jerabvoice also gathered that Magu lambasted the DSS for preventing the EFCC from arresting a former Director General of the DSS, Ita Ekpeyong, describing it as disappointing. The EFCC boss said those criticising President Muhammadu Buhari were sponsored by looters.

See his tweet below:
Instead of copying the West and Asia in science and technology, we want to copy and overtake the West in public indecency like #BBNaija where we celebrate youths publicly having intercourse in a toilet. It is barbaric. It is un-African. Animals not humans should behave that way!

L-R: President Muhammadu Buhari and APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun
The All Progressives Congress (APC) said on Wednesday that the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party during the last meeting did not endorse President Muhammadu Buhari for the second term.
The party said it only passed a vote of confidence on Buhari and the John Odigie-Oyegun-led National Working Committee.
APC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, disclosed this to Punch in Abuja on Wednesday.
Responding to a question whether the endorsement of Buhari for a second term in 2019 was part of the discussions in the meeting, Abdullahi replied, “No.He said, “You will recall that the Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, addressed this issue while responding to a question on the issue of 2019 at yesterday (Tuesday’s) briefing when he said, the President has not said he wants to contest and that for now, his focus is on the issue of governance, so the issue of endorsing him (President) for a second term in 2019 did not arise.”
Meanwhile, the National Chairman of the APC, John Odigie-Oyegun, on Wednesday in Abuja said the party members can express contrary opinions on the decision of the party’s NEC to extend the tenure of party executives at all levels while reacting to a question on the views expressed by some party members condemning the decision to extend the tenure of the APC NEC and party executives at all levels.
The NEC meeting held in Abuja, on Tuesday and voted in favour the extension of the tenure of the Odigie-Oyegun and all elected and appointed party executives at all levels by 12 months.
APC vs PDP
President Muhammadu Buhari, has once again claimed the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) wasted Nigeria’s resources in the sixteen years it was at the helm of the nation’s political affairs.
The President noted he and his party have had to deal with the mess created by the PDP since it took over the political leadership of the country in 2015.
Buhari made this known as part of his address during the National Executive Committee meeting of the All Progressives Party which held at the party secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday.
“Mr Chairman, members of the National Executive Committee, I must acknowledge that the pace of government has not met the expectations of many within our Party. But few of us knew or appreciated the depth of the hole when we took office. Thus we spent the last two years digging the country out of the mess we met,” he said.
The president also used the opportunity to highlight some of the achievements of the APC led administration, while calling on party faithfuls to work together to ensure victory for the APC during the 2019 general elections.
“Mr Chairman, Members of the National Executive Committee, we cannot afford to fail to remind Nigerians where we came from in 2015. I am happy to report that slowly and steadily we have managed to stabilize the country and re-direct the ship of the State.”
“We have restored prudence to the management of public finances. Confidence in Nigeria has been restored. On February 23rd, Nigeria issued 12 year and 20 year Eurobond on the international market, which were both oversubscribed. The 12 year bond was within days subscribed by 332%. The 20 year bond was subscribed by 372%.”
“We have stabilized the Naira, increased our foreign reserves from US$20 billion to US$40 billion. Inflation rate is down. With considerably less resources available to the country, we have improved all indices towards a stronger economy.”
“Above all, we must pay tribute to the Nigerian people. They still massively support the government in spite of distractions from exponents of “business-as-usual.”
“Nevertheless, I am not asking us to relax and take things easy. As we all know, elections are looming on the horizon, we must therefore get our act together.
Dr Paul Okorie, A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi, ,the party is ready, focused and poised for total victory in the 2019 general elections.
Okorie made this statement in an interview he held with Journalist today in Abakaliki, stated that those predicting the party’s defeat would be disappointed.
He said that the national leadership, has repositioned the party structures across all levels ahead of the crucial 2019 general elections.
By the grace of God, our party will disappoint all the prophets of doom predicting the party’s defeat in 2019.
“APC is quite in shape and ready to achieve a landslide in the 2019 general elections, and the party is re positioning all its structures for greater efficiency ahead of the polls.
“President Muhammadu Buhari is doing his best to put the country back on track and continuity in government is needed to stabilise the country in order to rebuild the economic, political and social structures.
” Those who think that APC will not win in 2019 will ultimately be disappointed, ” Okorie said.
He noted that the tenure extension for the National Working Committee (NWC) and other levels down the ladder of APC was a welcome development.
“There is always a time for certain decisions to be taken for expediency and to preserve the soul of the party.
“With party primaries just away by a few months, it will amount to political suicide by the party to engage in such a sensitive party exercise.
“The time is too short for our party to calm any frayed nerves arising from an elective congress at this time.
“With this development, APC has disappointed the opposition parties especially the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that has been waiting for such self destructive action.
“I say kudos to APC for such wisdom and congratulations to our National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun and other APC leaders, “he said. (NAN)

Senate President Bukola Saraki (File Photo)
Senate President Bukola Saraki has cleared the air on various speculations which has arisen as a result of his absence at the caucus meeting and National Executive Council meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Saraki’s absence at the meetings had fueled speculations the senate president was planning to dump the ruling All Progressives Congress for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
But in a statement issued on behalf of Saraki by Yusuph Olaniyonu, his spokesman, a copy of which was obtained by Naija News, Saraki explained that his absence was due to other engagements clashing with the meetings over which his principal has no direct control.
The statement also explained that Saraki had no reason to be coy if he had intentions of dumping the APC for the PDP.
Here is the full statement in which Olaniyonu explained his principal’s absence at the APC meetings.
“After many queries and concerns expressed by some colleagues, friends and associates on the absence of my principal, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, President of the Senate, at Monday night’s National Caucus and Tuesday morning’s National Executive Council meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC), I would like to make the following clarifications:”
“On Monday, the Senate President was in Benin from morning till 6.15pm, attending the Senate Roundtable on Migration and Human Trafficking, one of the interventions by the lawmaking body to source for legislative and policy solutions to one of the major problems plaguing the youth in our country today. The event was attended by Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, his Deputy, Hon. Phillip Shuaib, representatives of the Governor of Delta State and Oba of Benin, international partners and many stakeholders.”
“Dr. Saraki and his delegation, including Senators, returned to his Abuja home at 7.45 pm, while the APC National Caucus meeting was scheduled to begin by 8.00 pm on the same night. Clearly, there was no way he could have arrived at the venue on time, especially as it would be a breach of protocol to do so at a meeting presided over by the President.”
“On Tuesday when the NEC meeting was holding at the APC secretariat, the Senate President was at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) where he was fighting to clear his name as the defendant in an ongoing case. Dr. Saraki did not fix the date of the adoption of briefs by prosecution and defence lawyers. The Tribunal did, and by law, Saraki must be physically present at the Tribunal as the defendant.”
“It stands to reason that he cannot be in two places at once, and so he was unavoidably absent at the NEC meeting.”
“Let me also state clearly here that Dr. Saraki is not one to sneak into a room via the window. He would rather enter through the front door so that his entry is well noted and acknowledged. Nigerians know that when he joined the APC, he did not sneak in. Therefore, no one should attach any mischievous or inaccurate interpretation to his absence at the two meetings held at times when his whereabouts were a matter of public record.”
“Sponsors of misinformation as to why Saraki was not present at the Caucus and NEC meetings should be clear that there is no special reason behind the absence. The Senate President is not a coward. When he left the PDP in 2014, he was bold enough to inform the then President of his decision and left openly with his supporters. He therefore has no reason to be sneaking or hiding now.”
“It is incontrovertible that he is a leader, major stakeholder and founding father of the APC. Nothing has changed with regard to all these. I hope this clarification will halt the speculations, misinformation, misinterpretation, mischief and Fake News about the ‘Why’ and ‘What’ of his absence at the APC National Caucus and NEC meetings.”
“I appreciate the fact that the nation is gradually inching towards the electioneering period and permutations will be rife. I plead with analysts, commentators and forecasters to always get their facts right and not impute frivolous meanings to otherwise innocent events and occurrences.”
President Buhari on Friday as offered his sympathy to United Nations and other Humanitarian agencies that lost their workers to the attack by Boko Haram  in Rann, Borno State.
He stated that this attack more than ever portrayed Boko Haram insurgents as godless, brutish, and utterly to be despised. The President said this in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina.
“As I have always maintained, no true religion advocates hurting the innocent. To now further attack and kill those offering humanitarian aid is the height of bestiality. It is odious before both God and man,” He said
He affirmed that such cowardly attacks can only bolster the determination of the government to bring the Boko Haram insurgency to a decisive end, in the shortest possible time.
