The Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) has released its two years assessment report of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration titled: Buharimeter Mid-Term Report on the performance of the incumbent administration against its 222 campaign promises.

The CDD Director Idayat Hassan said that the two years’ assessment report reveals that five of the campaign promises have not and cannot be achieved by the incumbent administration and these constitutes “broken promises”.

“The promises include the commitment to end medical tourism, which has become a routine feat of President Muhammad Buhari, who is presently being treated in London for an undisclosed ailment, the creation of three million jobs annually; provision of steady power supply to Nigerians between 12 and 18 months of the administration in power, the building of one million new houses a year over the next decades; and immediate increase of national budget to health sector from 5.5 percent to 10 percent,” she said.

The report shows that in its first two years, the Buhari administration achieved seven of its campaign promises including the public declaration of assets and liabilities adding that the details is however yet to be published.

Also are presentation of National Anti-Corruption Strategy, establishment of a good working relationship with state governments in the conflict ridden North East, neighbouring countries and international community in the fight against Boko Haram; introduction of time-limited partial amnesty to rank and file of Boko Haram members; review of health policy; introduction of social insurance scheme; and review of structure of Joint Venture Companies and ensuring transparent tendering process, not managed by Federal Ministers.

“A comparative analysis of the performance of President Buhari in his first two years (years 1 and 2) shows significant progress in terms of promises rated as ‘achieved’ and ‘ongoing’. In the first year Buharimeter report released in July 2016, it was reported that overall performance was low, having achieved only one out of 222 campaign promises, while progress was made towards fulfilling 45 others.

“However, performance has fairly improved within the year under review. The total number of achieved and ongoing election pledges has increased from 1 to 7, and 45 to 114 respectively in year one and year two. The report also reveals that promises rated as ‘Not rated’ decreased from 179 to 96,” the report stated.

The report reveals that the government emphasis in the last two years have been on security, corruption, agriculture, oil and gas, social safety net and industrialization with no corresponding intervention in the education, health, sports and culture, women and youth empowerment sectors leading to their poor performance.

Aide to the Imo state Governor Rochas Okorocha has blasted a former Aviation Minister in the country, Femi Fani-Kayode over his take on the photo which surfaced online some days ago of the Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari and some All Progressive Congress, APC Governors dining in London.

Recall that the photo which surfaced online had caused several controversies from different quarters as the former Aviation Minister stated that the photo was a lie adding that it was taken during Ramadan and not recently as portrayed by the cabal within the presidency.

In reaction to the statement made by the former minister in which he added that the Imo state governor is a liar to have said that the president will be back in the country in two weeks, Okorocha described the former minister as a spoilt child.

Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Sam Onwuemeodo, the Imo state governor stated: “The guy (Fani-Kayode) is a spoilt child, one of those whose parents over pampered they hardly talk like human beings. Apart from somebody who went into government, he is not known for doing business.

“I wonder if he has ever worked and all of a sudden he had political appointment.

“He has nothing else to brandish apart from the father’s name. Remove his father’s name; I don’t think he is a human being.

“Rochas grew from the scratch. By the grace of God and hard work, he is where he is today. But that one apart from coming to politics what else does he have to brandish?”
IPresident Muhammadu Buhari says he is making good progress in London, United Kingdom where he is currently receiving medical attention.

He has also expressed his readiness to resume work once his doctors give him the go ahead.

According to a statement on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, the President made the disclosure in a “thank you” letter he wrote to the President of Guinea, Alpha Conde, for the nationwide prayers held last week by Guineans for his recovery and good health.

Adesina said the President had earlier made a phone call to Conde, who is the current Chairman of the Assemblies of Heads of State and Government of the African Union.

Buhari’s letter to Conde dated July 24, 2017, read, “I thank you for your kind and thoughtful action in organising nationwide prayers for my good health. ” It is a gesture that I will forever cherish and treasure.

“Your Excellency will be pleased to hear that I am making good progress, and as soon as doctors advise, I shall return to my duties and continue serving the Nigerian people who elected me and are daily praying for my recovery.

” In an earlier letter, Buhari was said to have also accepted his nomination as leader of the ‘2018 AU Theme on the Fight Against Corruption’, which came from African leaders at the 29th Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the AU in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on July 4, 2017.

“While thanking you for the kind words and for the nomination, I wish to express my readiness to accept this new important role and to reiterate my commitment to contribute towards our collective efforts to strengthen good governance and development on the continent.

The Yoruba Youth Congress (YYC) and the Coalition of Southwest Youths groups have called on the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo to order the immediate arrest of the leader of the Indigeneous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu.

The groups accused Kanu of taking Nigerians for granted, stressing that the IPOB leader is attempting to provoke the Nigerian youths.

Chairman of the Coalition of Southwest Youths groups who doubles as the National President of Yoruba Youths Congress, Prince Dapo Adepoju who addressed reporters in Akure, the state capital, said the groups are also aligning with the position of the Coalition of Northern Youth which asked the United Nations (UN) to see the IPOB as a terror group.

The Yoruba groups warned Kanu not to provoke violence in the country, noting that nobody has the monopoly of violence.

Adepoju disclosed that concerted efforts are being made at dousing rising temper of over 25million Yoruba Youths who are not happy with the war like attitude of Kanu and his men.

He said “We decided to keep mute all along as we felt Kanu and his men will allow for dialogue

“But we are surprised that despite the fact that the Northern youths who earlier issue quit notice to the Igbo’s has make a U-turn on their decision, Kanu and his men are still moving around spreading hate speeches

“We are tired as we are losing patience, in as much as we understand that Kanu does not have the support of the majority of the Igbo’s, we felt its high time the security operatives do their job in getting him arrested

“Kanu does not have monopoly of violence as efforts are been made at dousing rising temper of over 25million Yoruba Youths who are not happy with the war like attitude of kanu and his men

“We therefore use this medium to call on the acting president, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo to oder the arrest of Kanu

“We equally support the letter addressed to the UN by the coalition of Nothern Youths to declare IPOB a terror group, “he said.

Adepoju also called on president Mohammadu Buhari’s administration to call for national Youths Confab, saying it will go a long way in itemizing the issues affecting the Nigerian youths.

Nigerian journalist, Lekan Fatodu has slammed the Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose over the Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhair’s health.

The journalist took to his Facebook page to slam the state governor for playing the ‘Donald Trump game’ with President Buhari’s health.

He further stated that many Nigerians were falling for the state governor’s health.

Fatodu on his social media page wrote: “Gov. Fayose is playing the Trump-game and many are falling for it.”

He continued: “Fayose knows Pres. Buhari is not on life support. But the man must push the Card. Check some of the Cards played by Mr. Trump before the last US Presidential election to have a better understanding.

“Now Pres. Buhari’s picture, which shows the president is evidently in “high spirits”, is out and all the comments from the long-anticipated picture of the president have been about what Fayose said or he didn’t say about the president.

‘Instructively, Fayose has achieved the desired outcomes by those reactions, and he wouldn’t care whether those comments are pleasant or mostly caustic. He would rather be emboldened to up his ante. Look, it’s just what it is – the game. So the presidential team will do well to find a better and more desirable game and always stay ahead. Best wishes to the President.”

Rochas Okorocha, Imo State governor and Chairman of the All Progressives Congress Governors’ Forum, has said the convention of the party will hold at a yet to be announced date with or without President Muhammadu Buhari.

Okorocha contradicted the earlier position of the party chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, who had stated that the party’s convention will wait until President Buhari returns from London to also partake in it.

But the Imo governor said Acting President Yemi Osinbajo in his capacity would spearhead the convention just as the party stakeholders were still consulting to come up with an appropriate date.

Okorocha made these comments after the APC governors had a brief meeting with the acting president at the Presidential Villa on Thursday.

The meeting held immediately after the National Economic Council meeting also chaired by Acting President Osinbajo.
According to Okorocha, the ranting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), threatening to unseat the APC in 2019 holds no water, considering the fact that PDP was defeated while still in the saddle of leadership.

“We the APC governors we came to see the acting president and to talk about issues that relates to our party because people seem to have forgotten that the acting president and the president are members of APC, so we have come to discuss issues relating to our party and our government and how to move our party forward.

“A lot of issues were discussed on how to strengthen the party, to make sure that our party remains victorious in all elections.

“Very soon we will have convention. That is one of the subjects we discussed at the meeting.

“Delays in our convention has nothing to do with absence of Mr. President or the acting president, we are just putting our house in order to make sure that things are in the right form before we kick off.

“PDP is a non issue, we don’t even care about that we defeated them when they were in power so what threat do they pose when we are in power”.

It would be recalled that when APC governors and the NWC initially fixed April 29, 2017 for the mid-term convention, the convention was described as “non-elective”.

Some NWC members were said to be afraid of being replaced at the convention because of “alleged disloyalty” to their state governors.

The anxiety increased over reports that Chief John Odigie-Oyegun may be replaced at the convention especially as APC national leader, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, had demanded his resignation following his reported face-off with him.

He revealed that Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe State, who chaired the Audit Committee, presented the report to the council.

He stated that the acting president welcomed the interim report and noted that “Council will await the outcome of the final report and then discuss the report”.

The governor stated that the Accountant General of the Federation, Alhaji Ahmed Idris, briefed Council on the balances in the Excess Crude Account; Ecological Fund Account; Stabilization Account and Development of Natural Resources Account as at July 13.

A Military Special Court Martial on Thursday demoted Maj.-Gen. Ibrahim Sani, one time Chief of Transformation and Innovation Centre of the Nigerian Army, to a Brigadier-General.

President of the court, which sat at Mogadishu Cantonment, Asokoro, Abuja, AVM James Gbum, demoted Sani after he convicted him on a five-count charge bordering on cheating.

Sani had been standing trial in the court since 2015 after he was accused of dividing and allocating part of army land to himself.

Gbum also ordered the convict to return N23 million being the money he got after he sold the part of the army land to himself.

The court held that the convict fraudulently allocated to himself part of the land – 436 hectares, in Abuja and sold it.

The court president also held that Sani went beyond the mandate given to him by the army authorities which was “only to collect the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O)’’ from relevant FCT Agency.

He said that the convict divided the land into two and allocated one part to himself, using Pseudo Company in which he was the sole signatory.

Gbum said the convict sold portions of the land to different three people at N10 million, N7 million and N6 million, respectively.

The court, however, said that conviction and sentence was subject to the confirmation of the Army Council.

Counsel to Sani, Mr Paul Sule (SAN), said that he would appeal to the army council to quash the sentence.

FORMER president of the
Nigerian Bar Association,
NBA, Olisa Agbakoba has
opined that Nigeria is an
“artificial creation” which
could “blow-up” at any time.
Agbakoba made the
observation while faulting
a statement credited to
the acting president, Yemi
Osinbajo, saying Nigeria is an
indissoluble country.
Speaking to reporters, the
Senior Advocate of Nigeria,
SAN, maintained that
Nigeria’s sovereignty was not
sacrosanct.
According to Agbakoba, “I
see every politician saying
restructuring, but I disagree. I
think there is a misconception
error in assuming that
restructuring will work.
“I also think the acting
president was wrong to say
that Nigeria is indissoluble.
There is nothing sacrosanct
about Nigeria. It can blowup
any day. It is an artificial
creation. It was made in 1914
and when it was amalgamated,
we were not there.
“It was amalgamated for
the interest of the colonialists
who wanted to export things
from Nigeria. And since 1914
till date, we have not had any
home-grown process in which
people are involved in with
creation of their constitution.
“Nigeria’s sovereignty is
not sacrosanct. Nigeria’s
sovereignty is sacrosanct for
those eyeing 2019. They will
deceive us and get to 2019,
pretending that restructuring
is the issue. They are now
climbing on the band wagon
of popularism.
“We are so gullible in this
country. Among the 180
million Nigerians and 160
million youths unemployed,
we have no road, no health
care, nothing; yet we continue
to be deceived.
“This is part of the warning
we need to pass on as civil
society. Restructuring is not in
the interest of Nigerians. How
many Nigerians understand
what restructuring is about?
he queried.

A Igando Customary Court in Lagos, on Thursday dissolved a 23-year-old marriage, after efforts to reconcile the couple failed.

The case was brought to the court by the husband, Mr Tunji Oyedele, who accused his wife of adultery, engaging in fetish activities and attempting to kill him.

The wife, Romoke, a 40-year-old trader, who denied the allegations, told the court that the man was sending her away because he now has a new wife.

The president of the court, Mr Adegboyega Omilola, said the court had no option than to separate the couple as the husband was adamant to all mediation efforts by the court and his family.

“Since the petitioner insisted on divorce after several interventions, the court has no choice than to dissolve the union in spite of the fact that the wife still claims she loves her husband.

“The court pronounces the marriage between Mr Tunji Oyedele and Mrs Romoke Oyedele dissolved today, both parties henceforth cease to be husband and wife.

“Both are free to go their separate ways without any hindrance and molestation,” Omilola ruled.

Earlier, Oyedele had accused his wife of 23 years of engaging in sexual recklessness and infidelity.

“My wife is promiscuous, whenever I travel, my wife brings men into our house; on two occasions, I caught her with her lovers in our bedroom.

“One day, I came home unannounced and caught her with one of her lovers in our bedroom.

“On another occasion, I caught her with another man who she claimed was her Pastor.

“She claimed that the said Pastor wanted to take her to a river for a special bath to avert spiritual attack,” he said.

The petitioner further alleged that his wife was fetish and always in possession of different charms.

“I see different strange objects in my bathing water, food and everywhere in the house.

“There was a day I entered her room in her absence and saw feathers tied with clothes and other diabolical objects.

“I believe that my persistent illness, which has deferred medical solution, is as a result of her fetish acts.

“I have been forced to leave my own house because I don’t want to die now,” he said.

The 52-year-old businessman, who presented the pictures of the charms as exhibit, also said that his wife got pregnant for another man after she had their first baby.

My wife abandoned our 10-month-old baby for me and got pregnant for another man. She came back after some years and I accepted her,” he said.

According to him, his wife has no respect for his family.

“My wife used to call my mother a witch and always fought with her whenever she visits; my mother has stopped coming to my house,’’ he said.

He also said his wife chased away his first wife who did not bear him any child by always mocking and calling her a barren wife.

Romoke refuted the allegations, insisting that she was not adulterous.

“The man my husband first saw in our bedroom was my classmate in primary school; the other man was my Pastor, who came for spiritual purpose,” she explained.

The 40-year-old trader said she was not fetish and did not know how the charms got into her room.

The mother of four denied abandoning their baby to get pregnant for another man, saying it was her husband that chased her out of his house.

“My husband chased me out of his house after I had our first baby and that made me to get pregnant for another man,” she told the court.

She said that she and her husband had lived in peace until January 2016, when he married a new wife.

“My husband and I never fought; but immediately he married another woman, his attitude changed.

“His new wife accused me of sending hired killers to her and my husband turned me into a punching bag,” she said.

Romoke had pleaded with the court not to grant her husband’s wish, as she was still in love with him.

Foremost Nigerian singer, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Face or 2Baba has revealed what he saw at Internally Displaced Peoples’ Camps, IDPs in the North Eastern part of the country.

2face took a trip to the area yesterday where he visited several camps in the region.

The singer also noted said that the lingering insurgency in the area which left thousands of people dead, millions injured and displaced from their homes with property worth billions of naira destroyed have nothing to do with religion as insinuated, but has do with politics.

Tuface, who addressed reporters on Wednesday in Maiduguri immediately after the visit, said, “Unless government and politicians step up their games by doing the needful in eradicating poverty among the masses, particularly youths, and do justice to all manner of people, ending insurgency and other forms of violence currently happening in some parts of the north east and the country as a whole may be difficult and unrealistic.”

The musician spent 3 days in Borno State on his Solidarity visit to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) Camps in Banki, a border community with Cameron Republic and other resettlement areas in Maiduguri, the state capital.

He said he met “Saddened and pathetic Condition of IDPs in Camps”, urging government, security agencies, Media Practitioners and other Humanitarian agencies to scale up a coordinated efforts in addressing the plights of IDPs and other victims of violence, as well as nip terrorism in the bud.

He added, “I am here in Maiduguri with support from UNHCR to use my music in contributing to alleviate the suffering of our IDPs and other victims of insurgence.

“I feel honoured to work with organization like UNHCR, am just one person, when I went round some of these camps, I was saddened, I saw fear, sorrow and trauma, I feel disappointed looking at the faces and eyes of the IDPs. You will see hunger and object poverty.

“Unless Government and politicians shun injustice, corruption and remained focus and committed to our collective development, these same set of traumatized and displaced people in camps may turn up to be more dangerous in the society.

“Although, I have seen hope of life among some of these IDPs, all hands must be on deck to the needful by rendering support no matter how little it is. Presently I have a song, titled ‘Hold my Hands’, this song is on many platforms, all people need to do is to download it and use it ringing tone.

“It will only cost you N50 per month, but will surely contribute in giving hope of life to our traumatized victims of insurgency.

“In my little way, I have come and seen the live in camps and next week, when I go back to Abuja, we are going to do a concert as my proceed donation in alleviating the suffering of the IDPs.”

Abdulaziz Yari, Zamfara state governor, says the absence of President Muhammadu Buhari has put the national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on hold.

He said Buhari’s absence has so far made it impossible for a meeting of the party’s national executive committee to take place.

Yari said this on Wednesday while speaking at a joint press conference with Bolaji Abdullahi, spokesperson of the APC, at the party’s national secretariat, Abuja.

“We have been on this matter of convention but you know that the president is the leader of this party, one, before getting to the convention, there is some kind of process, the national working committee (NWC) must agree on the time and at the same time we have to adopt what the report submitted by the national working committee to the larger NEC members which the president must be in attendance as a leader of the party and you know the situation of our president,” Yari said.

“We have been fixing time but because of his illness we are unable to hold the meeting but we have to put a kind of process in place so that we can at least a mid-term convention, it is not an elective convention.”

Yari said Acting President Yemi Osinbajo must understand that he also has to perform party duties of Buhari in his absence, coupled with the issues of governance he’s handling.

“We have agreed collectively that we are going to meet with acting president. He should understand that he is acting in capacity of the president of the country as well as the vice-president,” he said.

“Tomorrow he is going to perform the function of vice-president as chairman of NEC and the entire issue of security, economy, administration lies on him, so we cannot take him as an easy man to deal with. It’s two in one. Therefore the committee is in place as we are talking today we reinstate that we going to [create room] for other issues and the issue of convention.”

The governor said the party’s congresses would hold on July 29 across states ahead of the convention.

He further noted that the senatorial bye-election victory of Ademola Adeleke on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party is “a wake-up call” to members of the APC.

“We discussed the election of Osun which we really know what happened, the media and everyone in the party, we know what happened, it was APC. PDP doesn’t have muscle to win the election and we are on top of the situation. It is a wake-up call on dealing with things like that in the future,” he said.

“We are in a democratic setting, of course, a delegate is from APC, his immediate past brother is from APC and we all know what happened. We have discussed that intensively and measures have been taken to avoid future occurrences.”

Founder and General Overseer of the Omega Fire Ministry, Apostle Johnson Suleman has warned Nigerians against wishing president Muhammadu Buhari dead.

The cleric gave the warning while addressing his congregants, insisting that it is an irresponsible thing to wish a leader dead.

According to him, anybody who has a good heart should not wish a sitting president dead.

He said, “If you are a Nigerian, whether you like it or not, this country is your country. Its our country. We are going to pray for Nigeria. Let there be peace in Nigeria from the North to the East, West and South.

“If there is crisis in Nigeria, it will consume all of us. We don’t need crisis, we need peace. We cannot talk of development without peace.

“It’s an irresponsible thing for people to be wishing President’s death. Nobody who has a good heart will be wishing a leader dead.

“You don’t wish your leader dead. Nigerians should be careful. Only God has the power of life and death.

“Stop wishing the President dead. If your husband is sick do you wish him death? Do you that man is somebody’s husband? If your father is sick do you wish him death? That man is somebody’s father.

“And you are wishing him dead. I know this thing I’m saying some Christians won’t like it. Stop wishing him dead. Pray for his health. Don’t wish any leader dead.

“Only an irresponsible country will be wishing their leader dead.”

The Senate on Wednesday placed five years jail term on false whistleblowers or N10 million fine.

The Senate’s decision was as a result of the clause by clause consideration of the report of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters on the Whistleblowers Protection Bill.

The Upper chamber also agreed with 5 per cent reward to whistleblowers on the money recovered.

According to section 45 (2): “A person who makes a disclosure which is false commits an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a term of imprisonment of not less than 5 years or to a fine of not less then 10 million naira.”

The Canadian Government has announced that it would provide the sum of $27.3million this year to support humanitarian assistance in the North-east region; a larger chunk of it the government believes would impact more on women and girls.

The Canadian Government has also disclosed its plans to assist Nigerian women entrepreneurs and professionals to overcome major challenges confronting them in the business and political environment.

Canadian High Commissioner in Nigeria, Christopher Thornley, who disclosed this at a one-day National Women Business summit and exhibitions in Abuja, said the decision to support women entrepreneurs and professionals was in line with his country’s foreign policy on gender equality.

“Canada is already working with the Federal Government of Nigeria and other partners to protect and promote the rights of women and girls in Nigeria. For example, we have projects focused on ending child marriage with ‘Save the Children and the United Nations Population Fund’. Much of our development programming in the areas of health and sustainable economic growth is also focused on empowering women.

“In addition, this year, we are providing 27.3 million in humanitarian assistance for the conflict in the Northeast which has had unique impacts on women and girls.

“With the launch of our new feminist international assistance policy, we look forward to intensifying our efforts to invest in the women and girls of Nigeria and to help unlock their potential,” he said.

The envoy, while commending the Association of Nigerian Women Business Network (ANWBN) for organising the summit, said Canada believes that gender equality, including women’s economic empowerment, is necessary for effective poverty reduction and economic growth both in Canada and around the world.

While noting that women around the world are rising to success and leading impressive enterprises, he expressed belief that events such as this would help raise awareness; provide a venue for open dialogue and the sharing of experiences, and encourage women and men to take stronger action to promote equality into the future.

He said: “As part of the Government of Canada’s commitment to gender equality and women’s economic empowerment, Prime Minister Trudeau announced on the margins of the G20 summit in Hamburg that Canada would contribute $20 million toward the Women Entrepreneurs Finance Initiative (We-Fi).

“We-Fi will target small and medium-size businesses and will also invest in other projects and programmes that support women entrepreneurs. Led by the World Bank, We-Fi will help women-owned and women-led businesses in developing countries to access the resources they need, including financial and technical assistance”.

In her welcome address, National Coordinator, Association of Nigerian Women Business Network, Nkiru Okpalla, noted that the prevalent economic condition in the country has placed a huge demand on women and they are equally rising to the challenge.

“You must agree with me that women are a force for progress. They constitute over half the entire population of our citizenry, and women’s economic advancement to a very large extent, impacts and also provide solutions to conflict and community management, food security and agriculture as well as resource scarcity and sustainability,” she stated.

TheEconomic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reportedly arrested policemen alleged to have connived with some fraudsters to dupe a major distributor for Dangote Cement, Jummy Azees Nigeria Ltd.

The fraudster, Daily Sun gathered, in connivance with some policemen, duped the company to the tune of N700 million.

It was also gathered that some of the suspects have been arrested by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Monitoring Unit and have since been arraigned in court.

Narrating his ordeal, Kazeem Aremu, said: “Sometime in or about July 2014, one Kemi became a registered customer to the company and availed her credit facility for the supply of two trucks of Dangote Cement worth N1.9 million, but failed to pay as promised.”

He admitted that his relationship with Kemi soon became intimate, such that he begun to give her advice on how to improve sales to make more profit.

Aremu claimed that sometime in December 2015, Kemi invited him for an “important” discussion, which he obliged her. At their agreed location, Aremu said Kemi told him she met an Islamic cleric in the Oju Ore area of Sango Ota, Ogun State, who advised him (Kazeem) to come for spiritual cleansing.

He said when Kemi persisted, he obliged.

“I later underwent the ritual cleansing at a river in Meiran area of Lagos State,” he said.

He claimed that the entire spiritual process with the Alfa cost him N40 million.

“On the eighth day of the spiritual seclusion, I was at Aliko Dangote’s residence when I received a call from Alfa and Kemi that the money I gave to them for ritual cleansing had miraculously and magically turned to dollars and euros.

“I was asked to come to Osogbo, Osun State, to collect the hard currencies. On getting  there, Alfa took me to a hotel where Kemi had lodged. She then narrated how she was traumatised in the spiritual world, in her effort to assist me to fight the curse, but she assured me it would be well.

“I accompanied the two of them to Osun Osogbo river in Osun State, where I met one old, short man and his group fully dressed in white regalia chanting mysterious Quranic verses.”

Ibadan—CONTRARY to expectations that the problems facing the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, are over following the Supreme Court judgment which recognised Ahmed Makarfi as the authentic National chairman, several members of the party in the South West who are loyal to the ousted National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alli Modu Sherif, have dumped the party for the new Mega Party of Nigeria, MPN.

Alimodu-Sheriff
The decision was taken yesterday at the party’s office in Old Ife Road, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

According to the leader of the group, Mr Ebenezer Alabi, and the Director General, Omo Ilu Foundation, Otunba Leke Adekoya, the decision was taken because the Makarfi group did not show any magnanimity in victory but instead, they were taunting Ali Modu Sheriff group.

Alabi, who was the Ondo State Chairman for Sheriff’s faction pointed accusing fingers at Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose and Senator Iyiola Omisore for their uncomplimentary remarks after the judgment.

He accused the duo of allegedly substituting names of members of state executive with their own supporters at the National Headquarters of the party in Abuja.

“The Makarfi group chose not to be magnanimous in victory. First, they talked about offering us amnesty as if we are militants. Recently, the Acting National Secretary also said he would not be surprised to see Sheriff join the All Progressives Congress, APC. While Governor Fayose while returning from Abuja,  branched at Ikere-Ekiti where he addressed people, making reckless statements. It was a display of arrogance of the highest order,” Alabi said.

In attendance at the yesterday’s event were the Oyo State Coordinator of the Omo Ilu Foundation, Alhaji Kolawole Ibrahim, Chief Segun Odekunmi and Chief Mary Anjorin from Osun State.

Justice Abdukadir Abdu-Kafarati of the Federal High Court has been assigned the suit on the health status of ailing President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Ibrahim Ndahi Auta, assigned the suit compelling the Senate Presi-dent Bukola Saraki to appoint a medical panel to determine the health status of Buhari to the judge.

A Nigerian, Mr. Toyin Dawodu, based in the United States of America (USA) had on June 28, 2017 filed the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/508/2017, seeking the order of the court to compel Saraki to raise the panel and end the coun-try’s endless wait for Buhari.

Buhari has been in London where he is recuperating from an undisclosed ailment for the past 70 days.

When the Acting President Yemi Osinbajo visited him last week, he returned with the cheering news that the Presi-dent was in high spirits and would soon return to the coun-try.

The respondents in the suit are Saraki, the Federal Execu-tive Council (FEC), and the Attorney-General of the Feder-ation and Minister of Justice (AGF), Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN).

Dawodu’s lawyer, Mr. Frank Tietie, confirmed that Justice Auta has assigned the case to Justice Abdu-Kafarati.

It was however learnt that the case many not be heard until after the ongoing annual judges’ vacation.

According to Tietie, the case has been assigned to Court 2 of the Federal High Court in Abuja, headed by Justice Ab-du-Kafarati.

He said that no date has been fixed for the hearing of the case.

Dawodu in the suit urged the court to declare that Saraki was empowered by the constitution to set up the medical panel to determine Buhari’s health status “without first be-ing a resolution of the FEC.”

Section 144 of the Nigerian Constitution provides that such medical panel should be appointed by the Senate President following a resolution passed by two-thirds ma-jority of the members of Executive Council of the Federation.

TheActing Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Ibrahim Magu, yesterday, inaugurated a six-man committee headed by former Director General of the Inter-Governmental Action Against Money Laundering in West Africa, Dr. Abdullahi Shehu, to reposition the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU).

He specifically tasked the committee which its inauguration is coming on the heels of the recent suspension of the NFIU from membership of the Egmont Group of Financial Intelligence Units, to take a holistic look at the mandate and operations of the NFIU with a view to coming up with proposals to reposition the agency for greater efficiency.

Other members of the committee are Mr. Chidi Chukwuka from the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC); Mr. Bamanga Bello, Head of the Special Control Unit against Money Laundering (SCUML); Hajia Jamila Yusuf of the Central Bank of Nigeria; Mr. Udofia Akpan Obot, a former deputy director, CBN, while Mrs. Joke Liman of the EFCC is to serve as secretary

He charged the Committee to among others, address the concern of the Elmont Group, by providing the necessary frameworks needed “to coordinate the effective process of amendment of section 1(2)(c) of the EFCC Act to expressly reflect NFIU as an autonomous unit under EFCC so as to provide legal basis or clarity on its operational independence from the EFCC.

He advised them to make recommendations with respect to the funding of the NFIU’s operations, develop career path for the staff of the NFIU; develop protocol for the protection of information and confidentiality, specifically as regards the status of STR information and information deriving from international exchange and procedure for the processing of information held by the NFIU either deriving from STR or from international exchange for legitimate purposes.

Responding on behalf of the members, Dr. Shah expressed delight at the opportunity given to them to serve the country.

“We see this as a call to service; and we assure you that we will ensure that we carry out this task judiciously in order to reposition the NFIU, and ensure that it is autonomous as this will further strengthen the anti-corruption fight”, he said.

He assured that the committee would hit the ground running, as members are familiar with the issues in the anti-money laundering architecture in Nigeria.

…Rejects Biafra with only 5 Igbo states

…Obiano replies IPOB on Anambra election, says election must hold in S’East states

…Ex-govs urge calm over separatist agitations

By Chioma Gabriel, Anayo Okoli, Ugochukwu Alaribe & Chimaobi Nwaiwu

UMUAHIA—THE leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, yesterday, disclosed that the Federal  Government offered him Biafra Republic while in Prison with only the five South East States as the component parts but he rejected it. According to him, he rejected it because that did not constitute the complete Biafra, saying that he told them that he wanted a Biafra with Rivers and Benue States inclusive.

The IPOB leader also claimed that he was offered an oil block and mansion in Dubai aimed at making him to abandon the cause but that he rejected them and insisted on the actualization of Biafra.

Nnamdi Kanu
Kanu said those things were Greek gifts to buy him over and maintained that he has no price other than to actualize the restoration of Biafra Republic and liberate the Igbo.

“They gave me Biafra in prison with only the five Igbo states; I said no, I want Benue and Rivers”, Kanu said, pointing out that “Biafra is coming, there is nothing to stop it”.

Also yesterday, Anambra Governor, Chief Willie Obiano  rubbished the statement of IPOB that the November 18 gubernatorial election in the state would not hold. Speaking at the erosion site in Odume Obosi Layout in Idemili North Local Government , Obiano said IPOB  does not have the interest of the people they claim to be fighting for at heart.

This is even as some former state governors  raised concerns over agitations by separatist movements in the country.

Knocks Igbo leaders

Kanu, who spoke when leaders of Igbo Civil Society Coalition led by Prof. Obasi Igwe paid him a solidarity visit at his Umuahia home, also gave knocks to Igbo elites for their anti-Biafra activities, saying that they have no interest in the Igbo masses.

He lambasted Igbo elites who he said are bent on scuttling the Biafran agitation, saying they were doing so for their selfish interest and challenged them to show the Igbo masses what they have been able to do for them since their romance with Nigerian Government. He said they would not succeed.

Kanu lamented the deplorable condition of roads in Igbo land and general lack of social amenities and wondered what the elites have been doing in Abuja other to fight for their self interests.

He further dismissed Igbo elites whom he said had thought he could be bought over, saying he has no price tag.

“They can’t buy us with money. If I can turn down oil block, turn down mansions in Dubai, what can they offer us? All the roads in Biafra land are in deplorable condition, yet we have elites who are just interested in their pockets.

“All the roads in Biafra are bad. Apart from Okpara (late Michael Okpara), Mbonu Ojike and Sam Mbakwe, I have not seen any elite in Igbo land. Let them show us what they have done, no roads, no water, nothing. Because they are in Abuja, they are now elites, let them show us what they have done for the people as elites.

“They said everything has price, I told them that Nnamdi Kanu has no price. All of you here know my wife, I sacrificed her for two years; so what can they offer me.

“Self actualization is not war. We are not for war. We are not talking of war but self actualization. Self determination is not war. Any elite that interprets self determination to be war does not understand English.

“Biafra is coming; there is nothing that can stop it, no matter the level of intimidation and blackmail. Some people are running around, saying why must it be Nnamdi Kanu, why not me. I am not an elite, I was born to restore Biafra. We are not interested in any violence, self actualization is not violence”, Kanu said.

Adding to the IPOB leader’s statement, Media and Publicity Secretary for IPOB, Emma Powerful said  Kanu’s  position has always been clear.

“Our leader Mazi Nnam

Goodluck Jonathan, Nigeria’s former president
Former President Goodluck Jonathan said Nigerians still believed in the capacity of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to lead the country.

Jonathan stated this at the expanded National Caucus of the party held on Monday night at Wadata House, Abuja.

He said that this was demonstrated with reactions by Nigerians to the Supreme Court judgment on the party’s leadership crisis on Wednesday.

He urged that all our efforts by PDP members and supporters within this period should be channeled towards building the party.

“Nigerians still believe in the PDP because when the Supreme Court judgment was given, I was so surprised because some of people called and sent text messages to me.

“They are not even politicians but they are so happy that PDP has come on stream because they were worried that PDP will go down.

“So, if people who are not even members of PDP are so happy that PDP has now gotten a platform to operate in spite of the negative propaganda against us, it means people still believe in PDP.

“PDP is a party that Nigerians still believe in,” Jonathan said.

He appealed to party members to rebuild it, assuring that many people who stepped aside from the party as a result of its leadership crisis would return.

“The first thing we need to do is to rebuild the party because when the party is strong, everything will be added to that.

“Whether you have individual or group interest, as a politician, you must serve. These are very basic things, but first and foremost, we must strengthen the party.

“Let us cooperate with the Caretaker Committee and make sure that PDP is very cohesive. And when that happens, people who stepped aside may step back.

“We may not even need to go on a voyage of discovery to discover people. But they, themselves will come back because a strong party acts like a magnet.

“It will attract all the people that are interested,” he said.

On his part, Chairman of the PDP National Caretaker Committee, Sen. Ahmed Makarfi, said only a miracle would stop PDP from regaining power in 2019.

Makarfi said the meeting was convened to chart the way forward for the party.

“We call this caucus before the meeting of other organs. You are our party leaders.

“Immediately judgment was delivered, I said no victor nor vanquished, and we mean it.

“It does not mean taking what belong to people and giving to a few people.”

On his part, Mr Ayodele Fayose, Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Governor of Ekiti State, urged party members and leaders to return to the “home” and mobilise Nigerians at the grassroots.

“If this party must win, if PDP must get the confidence of Nigerians, if this party must be restored, our leaders must go back home and work,” Fayose said.

The Deputy President of the Senate, Mr Ike Ekweremadu, said that the Lord gave PDP the victory because He loved Nigerian.

He said that the time had come for the party to work together and deliver good governance to the country.

“Time to work is now; we must go back to the drawing board. We must not disappoint Nigerians. It is time for fence-mending and reconstructing Nigeria for real change.

“We all believe in the party that was why we stayed. We need everybody in this party to re-build the party,” Ekweremadu said.

The Board of Trustees Chairman, Alhaji Jubril Walid, said it was time for the party to build a new Nigeria.

Walid, who was represented by Mr Aminu Wali, said “this is a new PDP. It is going to have a new beginning, a new start, by the grace of God.”

Present at the meeting were David Mark, Remi Bakare, Stella Omu, Godswill Akpabio, Nyesom Wike, Sule Lamido, Ahmadu Ali and also Uche Secondus.

Others were Olisa Metu, Jonah Jang, Jerry Gana, Grace Bent, Gabriel Suswam, Emmanuel Udom, Sen Ifeanyi Okowa, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu and Darius Ishyaku

The other persons were Jonah Jang, Tom Ikimi, Vincent Ogbulafor, Ahmadu Ali, Jim Agbaje, Solomon Ewuga,
Alhaji Atiku Bagudu

The Kebbi State All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all 21 local councils in last Saturday’s election in the state.Chairman of the Kebbi State Independent Electoral Commission (KSIEC), Aliyu Mohammed Mera, while declaring the results of the council poll, said the APC swept all the chairmanship positions.

“Having been satisfied by the various returning officers in the 21 local councils of the state, I declare that the APC won the chairmanship positions in all the councils with a wide margin,” Mera said in a statement.

He said the election recorded impressive turnout of the electorate just as it was peaceful, free and fair. However, the security agencies were present in all the polling units to protect the electorate, while no violence or casualties were recorded.

Reacting to the result shortly after the declaration, the spokesman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Ibrahim Mahey, said that the party was not satisfied with the results.

He accused the APC of writing the results to favour its candidates, adding that the party merely awarded scores to its candidates but urged the supporters to remain calm as they are working toward challenging the election outcome.

Fayose 2019
The governor of Ekiti state and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP's Governor Forum, Ayodele Fayose, has floated his presidential campaign on Facebook and Twitter.

The Facebook page was opened about twenty-two hours ago, with the message 'together we can make Nigeria work again' on the profile picture, which had the image of the governor.

"Hello Nigerians, behold your next President!!
Pro Masses. Accessible. Ekiti State Governor. Chairman, PDP Governors' Forum. Husband and Father.. He's Peter (The Rock) Ayodele Fayose," was the first message posted on the page, with the motto - ‘Strong, Reliable and Rugged’.

This development might be part of Fayose’s steps to snatch power from President Muhammadu Buhari, whom he never ceases to critique.

“I have penchant for taking powers; that one in Buhari’s hand, I will take it. I’m going straight to that villa. I’m the next president,” Fayose had said in a recent interview.

“I want to be the next president of Nigeria. My own won’t be this change that has brought nothing, we are going to represent the people well and tell them the truth.

…..APC must die, says Fayose
……Only miracle can stop PDP from regaining power in 2019
…….Leaders must focus on rebuilding PDP, says Jonathan

The immediate past President of the country, Dr Goodluck Jonathan has tasked leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to focus on rebuilding the structures of the party that were almost destroyed during the leadership crisis that rocked the party for months.

This is even as the Chairman of the National Caretaker Committee, NCC, of the PDP, Senator Ahmed Makarfi declared that it would take a miracle to stop the party from regaining power at the centre come 2019.

Also, the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Mr AyodelenFayose said that the the governing All Progressives congress, APC, must die for the PDP to bounce back

Jonathan, Makarfi and Fayose spoke yesterday at the opening of the expanded caucus meeting of the party held last night at the PDP national secretariat popularly known as Wadata House in Abuja last night.

The meeting, which was attended by Jonathan, former Senate President, David Mark, Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, another former Deputy Senate President, Alhaji Ibrahim Mantu, governors of Ekiti, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Taraba, Gombe , had several other key members in attendance.

The meeting is expected to reach major decisions concerning the way forward after the supreme court judgement.
In the words of the former President, “the PDP leaders need to focus now on rebuilding the party structures that were almost destroyed during the leadership tussle”.

On his part, Governor Fayose said, “the APC will soon die for PDP to inherit power. If your brother is alive, you will not inherit his property. He will need to die before you inherit his property.

“This people (APC) must go, I say they must go. Now, the coast is clear. If this party (PDP) must bounce back, we need to work hard to regain the confidence of Nigerians”, he said.

Senator Makarfi, who was last week recognized by the Supreme court as the authentic leader of the PDP, while addressing the meeting, said, ” Only miracle will stop PDP from getting to power in 2019″.

He disclosed that many people are waiting in the wing to decamp to PDP. He however did not mention the names of those people.

Senator Ali Modu Sheriff and most of his loyalists were however absent at the meeting.

Also in attendance at the meeting were former Speaker of thebHouse of Representatives, Hon Dimeji Bankole, former Senator Iyiola Omisore, Senators, House of Representaitives members, former Governors Attahiru Bafarawa, SulenLamido and others.

The Board of Trustees, BoT and National Executive committee meetings of the PDP are billed to hold today.

The Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Customs Service, retired Colonel Hameed Ali, can wear jeans and T-shirt to office if he ends smuggling, Senate President Bukola Saraki has said.

Saraki said this while declaring open a public hearing on ‘Smuggling - A threat to Nigeria’s quest to self sufficiency in rice production’ yesterday.

Saraki, in the presence of Ali, said: “Once you end smuggling, even if you want to wear jeans and T-shirt, I will personally move the motion to support you”.

Ali has been having issues with the Senate over his failure to wear Customs uniform.

Meanwhile, the Senate Committee on Customs Excise and Tariff said yesterday that a total of 282 vessels are missing at the various terminals of the Nigerian Port Authority (NPA).

Committee chairman, Senator Hope Uzodinma (PDP, Imo) said documents in the possession of the Senate showed that the vessels got missing between 2010 and 2016.

He said the documents contained the names of owners of the vessels and the officials of the NPA, who released it to them without documentation.

“In the process of our investigation, we discovered that 282 vessels are missing at NPA. We want the NPA to come and explain what happened to 282 vessels that disappeared from terminals. We have names of the releasing officers,” he said.

Uzodinma who said officials of the NPA are to appear before the committee on Thursday, said over N7trillion worth of goods are smuggled into the country annually.

He said a latest World Bank report showed that $15bn (N4.35trillion) worth of goods are smuggled into the country through the sea ports annually.

He said the report further revealed that $5bn (N1.45tr) worth of different goods are smuggled into the country annually through Benin Republic alone.

“Put together, it means goods worth over N7tr are smuggled into the country each year. The frightening thing here is that the annual turnover in the hands of smugglers is more than our annual Federal budget, “he said.

Uzodinma said the World Bank report also revealed that over 25 percent of the total annual revenue collected by Customs Service is lost to smugglers annually.

Saraki described smuggling as the singular greatest threat to the delivery of the campaign promise of President Muhammadu Buhari to diversify the economy.

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has rejected calls for the restructuring of the country, insisting that what Nigeria needs is repackaging to enable it to compete favourably on the international stage.

Okorocha, who noted that each of the geopolitical zones in the country had different understanding of the term restructuring, argued that Nigeria was better as a united country.

The governor spoke on Monday while declaring open the 67th annual conference of the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria held in Imo State.

He said, “Every geopolitical zone has its own interpretation of restructuring. To the South-East, restructuring means creation of an additional state. For the South-South, restructuring means resource control. For the South-West, it means devolution of power and the North may see it differently, but whatever is the case, we are better off as a united Nigeria.”

He called on the BON and the media in general to project the country to the outside world in positive light, adding that Nigeria had the needed potential to attract foreign investment.

Okorocha said, “Our nation requires repackaging. It is unfortunate that a great nation like ours has not been properly packaged for consumption by the international community. Yet, there are more evils in other nations than we have in Nigeria but the reports going out about our country is such that no one will want to come into Nigerian unless for those who want to take risks. No nation can grow with this arrangement. I want to charge you today, as you meet, think Nigeria and see how you can repackage it. We are not the worst of them all.

“I call on all Nigerians that this is a period to dramatise and demonstrate patriotism which is anchored on the spirit of sacrifice. We must accept the fact that this nation belongs to us and we do not have any other nation on the face of the earth outside Nigeria. So, it’s incumbent on us to fix Nigeria and make it better not only for us but for generations yet unborn.

“You have a role to play. The news we have about our country outside Nigeria is not a good one and that has, in many ways, discouraged our investors. This is the time to speak less of the ugly situation we go through; this is the time to speak more about the potential in Nigeria. People keep destroying this country by what they say. Therefore, today, my plea would be to the national body that you get a space in your programme titled, Repackaging Nigeria for the Better.”

Women like kissing because it is an emotionally intimate act. However, beyond the lips, a woman still desires that you explore other erogenous areas in her body during the sex act!

According to psychologist and author of sex books, Dr. Jill Weber, the following are the areas to explore in your woman’s body…

• Nape of the neck. Start kissing at her neck, as there’s a certain vulnerability that drives her wild, says Jennifer Landa, author of The Sex Drive Solution for Women.

• Small of the back. This is where all the nerves for the genitals originate, so stimulation of the lower back with massage and kissing and nibbling is a great way to stimulate the area,” says Dr. Landa. It’s also why she loves it when you place your hand on the small of her back when you’re out together — it’s an intimate, sexy gesture that makes a woman feel hot without it seeming out of the ordinary, she says.

• Forehead. What woman doesn’t want to get a loving kiss from a man who loves her brain? “It’s a huge self-confidence builder, a soother, and a make-her-legs-weak, strong-man move,” says Walsh. It might not be the thing to do in the bedroom—you’ll want to focus on other areas at that point—but she’ll appreciate when you pull her close and plant one on her head after a long day at work.

• Fingers. Fingertips have a huge concentration of nerve endings, making them sensitive to anything from little pecks to a long suck. “When you suck and lick her fingers, she gets an idea of your oral skills and pictures what it might be like when you lick and suck her more intimate areas,” says Dr. Landa.

• Nipples. Sucking on her nipples releases the hormone oxytocin, called ‘the love hormone,’ because it makes people feel more bonded, says Landa. “The nipples seem to have a hotline to the genitals, and for some women, nipple stimulation will send an impulse right to her clitoris.” Don’t forget you can score points by showing some love to the rest of her breast, too.

• Ears. Her ears may be quite sensitive to light licking and sucking because of all the supersensitive nerve endings there. “Most women are quite sensitive to auditory stimulation,” says Landa. “So, while you suck her ear, be sure to use the opportunity to whisper something about how attracted you are to her and what you’d like to do to her after you finish nibbling her lobes.”

• The clit. Once you land here, you’ve reached the point of no return. There are over 8,000 nerve endings in the clitoris alone, compared to a man’s mere 4,000 in the penis,” says Dr. Christine Milrod.
